Panthers like Armanti Edwards

I just moved away from Boone,NC after living there for 7 yrs. So needless to say I saw alot of this guy. I think he will be a great addition, maybe not as a QB,  but maybe a WR, KR, or even thrown into the wildcat. Here are his stats and  a link to the article. Your thoughts? http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/03/17/1318611/edwards-shows-pros-he-can-run.html

Another Boone guy?

Awesome! Now I know of at least three of us around here, with Tater being the other. Armanti would be an absolutely great value pick in the 6th for us and could fill many roles for us.

6th rnd

I’m good with that. Maybe even the 5th. he could be better than expected.

If we do draft him...

he will generate a lot of excitement but…then only return kicks to begin with. That’s just the way they operate

Thats a realistic assesment....

I think there could be a slight chance of him impressing at WR or coming in to run the wildcat a play or 2 a game , maybe…..

They said the same thing about Goodson.

He was buried on the DC until our RB corps all got hurt.

Maybe...

Notice I said slight chance…….I think Edwards has more upside than Goodson.

Goodson buried himself with the fumbles and muffed catches

You can bet he’s working on that big time this offseason

I think 2010 will bring great things for all of our backs..

We will be the first team in the NFL (that I’m aware of) with TWO successful running back tandems. Double Trouble & Thunder N Lightning.

Just my opinion

I always though Goodson was a wasted pick. We would have been better served taking a WR at that spot. Here’s just a few that went near where Goodson was drafted: Louis Murphy, Austin Collie, Johnny Knox

by Sniff on Mar 23, 2010 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions

I like the Goodson pick..

But I certainly wouldn’t be complaining right now had we took Knox instead. (In fact, I wouldn’t be complaining had we taken anyone instead of Goodson because I really wouldn’t care about him one way or the other had he not wore the black & blue this past year)

He had a chance to step up in some areas we needed.

We’re gonna need a speedy guy who can make things happen in space eventually. But, unfortunately, we didn’t have the personnel to support him on ST, and he didn’t have his typical speed and quickness advantage he did in college. I still hope he can become an impact returner if we get the blockers to open up some lanes for him.

So....

So he’s another Dwayne Jarrett? As I still contend, he was a wasted pick. 21 yards per return doesn’t justify a 4th round pick. Apparently, there were 31+ players on the Panthers roster who are inferior to….,Cleveland,. Chicago, etc., NO. He was going to be the focus of Texas Agriculture and Mechanical’s offense before he mysteriously declared. Why’d he do that? Maybe it was because he wasn’t that good of a player, and he was getting by on hype, or personal problems Either way, not a 4th rounder. He had great numbers if you just look at the bottom line. 6.1 yards per carry and 7.5 yards per reception sounds like a future HOF’er to me. But with Double Trouble, that’s not where the Panthers needed him, and his first 9 NFL carries went for an impressive 5 yards. We haven’t had a dynamic return guy since… never. But if there is one thing Fox instills in ST players is the desire to bust ass and play with all you have. He just didnt cut the mustard. Maybe Carolina will sign 31 players who can open a lane and make him a superstar this off-season.

by Sniff on Mar 24, 2010 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions

To be fair

Dwayne Jarrett has been in the NFL for three seasons now, and including preseason play has shown himself to be useful in one game. There have been numerous questions about his work ethic over the period.

Meanwhile, Goodson has been in the league one season. While he did very little in the regular season he proved himself to be quite effective in the 2009 preseason where he averaged 4.9 ypc on 40 carries. I can not find one quote that indicates a lack of work ethic.

Was Goodson effective as a rookie in the regular season? No. But there were no reports or evidence that Mike Goodson wasn’t a hard worker or that he didn’t possess ‘the desire to bust ass and play with all you have’.

On the contrary, Fox said of Goodson on August 26th 2009:

rookie RB Mike Goodson has earned more than a spot role on offense.

Would he say that of a player who wasn’t giving it his all?

Goodson could definitely end up being a wasted pick, but declaring it already is premature in my opinion.

I wouldn't say he was terribly effective in the preseason.

In about a game and a half’s worth of work, he fumbled what, three times? Further, he was getting those impressive YPA numbers against awful defensive players who’ll never sniff regular season PT.

True

But Jarrett was facing those same players and did less than Goodson did.

I think we’re on the same page, just different sentences… I think it’s too early to declare Goodson a bust, though the fumbling is a concern.

Jarrett has flopped for three times longer than Goodson.

Further, he’s never been called out by his teammates for simply not caring enough to do the work needed to improve.

I guess I did get off on a bit of a tangent there. Bud Light can do that to you sometimes. What I wanted to get across was that with DeAngelo and Jonathon on the roster, he has very little chance to get on the field at his true position. We would have been better served to get a KR’er from a WR pick at that draft spot., who would have a chance to contribute at his normal college position.

by Sniff on Mar 24, 2010 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

It makes you wonder if their original intention was to convert him.

Also, Sutton ended up being a nice surprise… we ended up ultra-deep at RB.

I wish him luck.

by Tater596 on Mar 24, 2010 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Sutton was more than a surprise... he could be a steal

Among rookies with over 10 carries he ranked third in the NFL in ypc

I started a new Madden franchise with the Lions (I like taking sh*tty teams for more of a challenge). Before starting pre-season, I made trades for Shonn Greene, Fred Jackson, and Tyrell Sutton and signed Edgerrin James (Traded/released all of their current backs). They were supposed to remain in that order on the depth chart, however, 10 weeks in and Sutton has found his way to the top ahead of Jackson/Greene/James. Though, that’s not saying much considering the Lions offensive line couldn’t open a hole large enough to push a pin-needle through. Yeah, I’m definitely football starved.

Nothing on his Journal as of yet. Maybe he will wrap them all up once he is finished with all this private workouts.
