DeAngelo Williams enjoys sharing carries

DeAngelo Williams says he is happy and thankful that the Panthers will keep him in a timeshare with Jonathan Stewart going forward.

"The front office and coaching staff are single-handedly prolonging my career and (Jonathan Stewart's) career. Thirty is like the new 50 in the NFL, especially when it comes to tailbacks," said Williams, who turns 27 next month. "We’re each about 220 or 230 carries a year. I’d rather have that than 300-plus carries a year. It's going to be close to a 50-50 split no matter want." Mar. 19 - 3:37 pm et

Here's hoping we get 5 or more years of the best tandem football has ever seen.

He's right,

There are several benefits to Double Trouble:

1. Longer careers for both
2. With different running styles, they keep opposing def. on their heels
3. Both being so talented, they push each other to get better and better

I do think they should let JStew get some starts in, not just if D’Lo gets injured.

In this original link...

The guy talks about fan started rumors of tradeing Dwill. I wonder where he read that speculation…????

In case u aren’t getting my sarcasm I can guarantee he heard it here at CSR. I told you guys not to even talk about it. I know Dwill has read about it by now. It would make me sad if I was him. He’s big on fans. Shame

Richardson you better not screw this up for me!

Really? That's funny..

Considering we’re the only football community on the internet that exists, it’s funny that a simple search of Google for “DeAngelo Williams trade” doesn’t even list CSR on the front page. In fact, CSR doesn’t get listed until the very bottom of the second page.

PS.

I think you could’ve gotten the message across just fine without the sarcasm.

thanks for the tip

so how many of those are blogs ran by fans?

Richardson you better not screw this up for me!

by STEVEN 785 on Mar 20, 2010 1:37 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Is that even relevant?

Unless we’re playing professional football, we’re all fans. Any rumor started outside of the NFL is done so by fans, regardless of who is running the website.

Point being, there’s no reason for us to act like (or feel like) we’ve done something wrong by speculating on a subject that has been all over the internet. If Williams truly wasn’t liked by Panther fans, I’d imagine he’d garner boo’s on the field. That is what would make me sad.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 20, 2010 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

If I was him and I read the shit id be upset about it.

Richardson you better not screw this up for me!

by STEVEN 785 on Mar 20, 2010 3:37 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I could see that..

But as EPMD said in 92.. “Business Never Personal”. As much as they love it and we love them, it’s still a job that they make their living off of, just as we do (on a lesser scale haha). If you went into work tomorrow and read an article by some outside source that you could potentially be transferred, what would you do? I know what I’d do, I’d shrug it off and do my job, not worrying about things that were outside of my control. Treat your job like your girlfriend and you’re asking to get hurt. There aren’t very many long term relationships in the NFL.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 20, 2010 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

PS (again)

DeAngelo seems like a stand up kind of guy. I believe he’ll give us his all every season that he is here but, if for some reason in the future he is traded/cut/released, I think he’ll take it like a man and exit respectfully. He seems like a very intelligent guy, I doubt he’s going through this “relationship” blindly.

Anyways, here’s to hoping this conversation is moot being D-Will isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 20, 2010 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

If I was in the nfl the fans would be important to me as would their opinions. It would definately make me think

EPMD

Anyone who can make EPMD relevant to Panthers football is a hero in my book. My day is better now.

Every Panther site on the internet has talked about the possibility of trading D-Will

He might have read it here, he might not have, we can’t assume.

Jake Delhomme, QB Carolina Panthers, 2003-2009.

120 TDs+16000+ passing yards=Good

89 INT's+27 lost fumbles=Bad

Most comeback wins since 2003=Priceless

by Flowing Willow on Mar 21, 2010 1:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Exactly!! Never trade either one

Sniff…I want to promote this to the front page but I need the link first.

I believe this is the only site that was talking about that so yeah, I bet it was from here they were talking about it.

The greatest part about that..

In my opinion, is the fact that D-Will doesn’t have that “I can be great forever” ego that some players have (T.O.). He very well understands the “time line” for running backs and I believe that will definitely help him keep himself healthy for many years to come. It seems, to me, he’s the type of guy you want to be a fan of for his character just as much as his on field production. Stewart seems to also be following in that mold.

If he doesn’t retire a Panther one day, I’ll be very sad.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 20, 2010 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

we'll see

he’s saying these things now, but fewer carries now doesn’t mean he’s gonna play until he’s 35. when he’s 30, he’ll get the same treatment as a 1400 yard runner with about a dozen TDs…Thomas Jones. D-Will is great, but he doesn’t have 10 more good years like Smitty might have, regardless of the number of carries he gets.

by usana_gaines on Mar 20, 2010 12:54 PM EDT reply actions

10 more years?

So you think Steve Smith will play til he’s 40 years old?

by Sniff on Mar 20, 2010 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Haha! Epic.

That can be his new moniker

Papa Smurf. I bet he would love it. That or Mighty Mouse.

Do or do not. There is no try.

by ERL on Mar 22, 2010 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Indeed..

That would almost make it fair for defenders, they’d have a good 5 feet of cape or so to grab to slow him down.

Honest to God I miss that show

along with all the other 80’s cartoons

Do or do not. There is no try.

smitty is nuts

he won’t retire until someone makes him. he’s like the ray lewis/mike singletary of receivers.

I don't know...

The Laser Tag and Karaoke may keep D-Will feelin’ young forever. haha (kidding)

Oh crap! That's right!

I’m going to join that club this year. Lol!

Our reaction as fans of the Panthers -- should be joy that Williams feels this way!

Not concern about which blog trade talk came from. Every time it arose here, I and others shot it down — if he were to read about it here, he’d have also read plenty of posts that sang his praises, and didn’t want any such trade talk.

Thanks

That was the reason I posted this. To give people a chance to praise DeLo and Stewart if so inclined and to sing the praises of RBBC. Backfired a bit.

by Sniff on Mar 21, 2010 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I love our running backs..

I think it’s along the lines of “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone” for most, though.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 21, 2010 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course he does... because he's starting!

Its a great gig. Your team is built around running the ball, half the plays you get to sit on the bench while some other guy wears down defenses… Yet publicly he gets to be front and center, get the ProBowl attention, the big interviews… yet doesn’t have to do as much work for it as a 300 yard back.

What I want to see is Stewart say for the next 5 years, HE wants to backup another RB who gets recognized for more of the personal achievement, even though Stewart’s doing just as much work. Then I’ll be a believer that this tandem can last long-term.

Otherwise known as SouthTunnel. Change is inevitable - except from a vending machine.
