What we should do in the 2010 NFL Draft

1st off, let me say, I love that Chris Harris continues to post on our webpage....

And here's what I think we should do..

2nd Round -- Mardy Gilyard - WR - Cincinatti

3rd Round -- Eric Norwood - OLB/DE - South Carolina (if we can't get Gilyard in the 2nd, go after Jordan Shipley of Texas)

4th Round -- D'Anthony Smith - DT/DE - La Tech (saw him personally for 4 years at Tech and he is an absolute beast and a smart player)

5th Round -- George Selvie -- DE - South Florida (A beast who was unstoppable 2 years ago and got overshadowed by Jason Paul-Pierre)

6th Round -- Armanti Edwards -- QB/WR/KR/PR - Appalachain State (WE HAVE TO GET THIS GUY!!!!)

7th Round -- Let's pick up an Offensive Lineman here to round things out

Hope ya'll enjoy my 1st fan post, from Shreveport, LA...

I like your style...

I’ve been advocating Gilyard for a while now, it’s nice to see someone else thinks along the same lines. Norwood is a great LB, and would be a nice addition to the roster.

I’m starting to come around on the Armanti Edwards bandwagon. I haven’t fully jumped on board, but I’m at the point where I wouldn’t mind him being drafted.

Nice first post!

As long as the Panthers don't trade for Michael Vick, sign Derek Anderson, or draft Tim Tebow; my sanity (what's left of it, at least) will remain intact for 2010.

You took the words out of my mouth

the 6th round selection…You are pure GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my only problem is the defensive end

with the resigning of Brayton we might be set there

...

i think we need one more for sure. only three DE’s will get tired pretty quickly (i’m excluding Hilee Taylor). I think we still need to draft another DE.

by SouthernPanther on Mar 18, 2010 10:34 AM EDT up reply actions

lets go deymarius thomas instead of mardy gilyard

i thought we could get him 3rd/4th but recently he’s skyrocketing up drafts (even after breaking his foot or ankle… i don’t remember)

everything else in your draft looks good but pantherpride might be right about the extra DE’s

Thomas is still a third rounder.

Without a timed speed to go off of, they’ll have to rely on tape, and he looks slow on tape. I think he’s a late 4.5 guy. Not to mention the offense he ran is both a boon and a blessing. It makes his production look absolutely insane, but at the same time he didn’t run very many proper routes on a consistent basis. He’s not a polished guy, but he’s a great physical talent. He reminds me of Michael Irvin, and I’d definitely spend a third on the guy.

As for the OP’s draft, I like it. Gilyard would be a good weapon for the slot to start out, along with an excellent kick returner. Norwood could play strongside linebacker and weakside DE, although I would relegate him to third down pass rusher until he gets smoother hips to play LB. I like Smith, he’s a good penetrator. Selvie’s role is already filled by Norwood, so I’d take a corner there for extra depth and to fill Wesley’s role. Jerome Murphy sounds about right. I LOVE Edwards in the sixth, and for the seventh an OL, preferably with LT capabilities, would be nice.

Thomas, Just an FYI...

According to TFY Draft Insider’s Tony Pauline, Demaryius Thomas was running forties in the 4.3 range prior to breaking his foot this week.
Thomas’ agent confirmed the injury to Pauline while adding that a pin may need to be inserted into Thomas’ foot to quicken his healing. The agent also said Thomas ran a 4.38 at 227 lbs. last week, which would’ve skyrocketed his stock had Thomas repeated the time in Indianapolis.

Not being at the combine supposedly hurt his draft stock, if he is still available at 48, SPRINT to the podium. Call out his name. Smile. Wait for round 3. They should be able to say… Carolina Panters are on the clock, hold on a second they are handing me their card… and have already selected Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech.

I'm sorry Sniff

I know you like Demaryius Thomas, but there is no way he runs a 4.3. I’ve seen him play, he’s not that fast. 4.4 I can believe. Besides, if athletic ability was all there was to a receiver, Jarret wouldn’t be a bust.

Welcome to the Board

I’m still not sold on Gilyard. Good college player, but would rate several others as better NFL prospects Ford, D. Williams, Decker,Thomas,

Like Norwood and Selvie and will defer to your judgment on the La tech guy. Edwards is worth a 6th. I don’t think after the first round there is a lot of difference between many players, so I would down in 2nd and 3rd rounds and get extra picks this year or next and still get a good player in 2nd and 3rd.

Armanti Edwards

As much as I like this kid…I don’ think he is going to get drafted in the 1st 7 rounds. We could still pick him up as an undrafted rookie.I like Norwood /Selvie in the 3rd round. Demarius Thomas is currently being discussed by many scouts as the 2nd overall pick among the WRs. We may stll be able to get Benn in round 2 and Jordan Shipley in round 4. But knowing the Panthers, we may not draft a WR till the 4th round (I hope I am wrong). We may end up picking Tim Tebow in round 2 and a DE in round 3.

PLEASE don't mention Tebow...

John Fox might read this and actually consider drafting him…

I'm starting to think to opposite.

I think Edwards is going to be taken a lot higher than he should be.

I predict he’ll go in the 5th round, even though he probably should be a 6th or 7th rounder.

My opinions are completely Different

2nd Round- WR Jacoby Ford/ Jordan Shipley

3rd- QB Tony Pike/ WR Riley Cooper

The rest I really don’t care =/

Welcome to the blog Matt Wats

I like your selections. I’m thinking Selvie won’t last that long.

So tell us more about Smith since you’ve been watching him for so long (another post?). Does he project a DE or DT for the Panthers? It’s that kind of ‘inside’ information we crave!

Well...

Watchin D’Anthony over they years he’s a guy with a huge motor and has the ability to drop back into a little zone coverage if needed, he played DT for LaTech, but I feel he’d be Tweener if possible between a DT(in a Damione Lewis mold)/DE/OLE, I just think with his smarts and talent, he’d be a great pick up for us in the draft.. When he graduated, the Chancellor held a private graduation just for him in his house next to the football stadium, Just saying, I think that speaks a little bit on his character.. Great Guy to have I think, but then again I am biased…

GOooooooo Smittty!!!!!!!!!
