Czar: Watch for trade market to warm up
Hey TO fans...think he's worth $5 million? That's what he's demanding at minimum. I somehow don't think that's a reasonable deal for an aging, slow receiver with poor hands.

Interesting...from your linked article:
And, yes, the Carolina Panthers are finally fixing their salary cap by ridding themselves of eight former (and very much older) starters while preparing for the future. In hindsight, Julius Peppers should have accepted their long-term contract a year ago, but Peppers was too greedy for his own good and now he’s in Chicago.
He doesn’t seem to disagree with the Panthers Over 30 Purge

"Fixing their salary cap?"
There’s no salary cap to be fixed. And “preparing for the future” says nothing about contending or even being close to it for the 2010 season.

There will be a cap eventually,
and when it comes into effect we won’t have overpriced veterans like Peppers and Delhomme on the roster. We’re taking this rare oopurtunity to field a competitive team and clear up the books.

According to whom?
The NFLPA is on record as saying they’d never allow a cap again if it was allowed to lapse. Further, I’m not sure how this team is so sure to be “competitive.” They were a by-definition mediocre 8-8 last year, and they’re certainly not better.

Bargaining posturing maybe?
If there isn’t a cap, there’s a lockout, and that benefits no one. That’s why a cap will eventually be put back into place.
We were mediocre last season with an awful QB, give us a mediocre QB and of course we’ll improve. Add in everyone coming back from injuries, rookies, who admittedly may or may not contribute, and we’ll be better than 8-8. 10-6 to 11-5.

Procton, that statement isn't entirely accurate.
DeMaurice Smith- NFLPA chief said:
“The cap was something the owners wanted,” he said. “I think it will be virtually impossible to go back to a capped system if we go to an uncapped year.”
That’s a far cry from them saying ’They’ll never allow a cap again if it was allowed to lapse’.
Furthermore, there’s growing sentiment among a lot of execs and writers who believe this language by Smith was little more than clutching at straws from the union who know they’re not in a position of power on the issue.
Andy Brandt who was an executive for the Packers, contract consultant for the Eagles and now head of the National Football Post said:
“In 2006, when the [current] deal was made, the owners were very afraid of an uncapped year ….In 2010, they appear not to be. It has put the union in a tough position.”

I'm not going to look it up...
But there have been much stronger language out of that office before.

Mediocre (Fr, from the Latin, meaning halfway up a jagged mountain)
“Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius.” (Arthur Conan Doyle)
You, sir, are a genius.
I agree with Willow
These moves are to not put all of our eggs into one 2010 basket. As the owner/GM of a professional team, one might have to be more forward thinking, as careless spending this year might set this franchise back for the next five.
Do or do not. There is no try.
