Report: Panthers looking to sign Deangelo to an extension
Per Len Paquarelli of ESPN. It makes sense, secure him for long term, and provide us with more leverage in any trade scenario.

That would seem a strange decision.
We’d have some cost certainty, and he’d have some security, but without knowing what the financial landscape will look like in the next CBA, it’d be risky to agree to a deal now.

They want to keep him in a Panther uniform
Doesn’t seem all that strange to me. Trying to sign him next offseason would be more difficult, he’d be a FA, and would quite possibly be more expensive if he has another good year in 2010.
Do or do not. There is no try.
I doubt it.
After the last two seasons, Williams has nowhere to go but down. And with the carries he’s seen since his college days at Memphis, I think I’d make him get through a season without missing another handful of games or—god forbid—a major injury before I extended him at a very high price given that we’ve got a replacement already present on the roster.
