Delhomme visiting Browns
"Cleveland's QBs are in motion. Filed to ESPN: Former Panthers QB Jake Delhomme scheduled to visit the Browns on Thursday."
Definitely one of the few places Jake could compete for a starting job. Sadly, it could be rough as a fan because the Panthers are due to head to Cleveland in 2010.

I’d like to see him go somewhere with a good team…The Browns suck…I know he wants to be a starter but…man the browns are terrible

It would be interesting if he signed with Cleveland...
And we made the horrible mistake of signing Anderson and giving him the starting job, since we go to Cleveland this season.
As long as the Panthers don't trade for Michael Vick, sign Derek Anderson, or draft Tim Tebow; my sanity (what's left of it, at least) will remain intact for 2010.
Holgrem is in there now
Not that he is a miracle worker or anything but it might at least change the attitude around there

Who is he going to throw to in Cleveland?
I’m sure they’ll draft a WR, but still. That’s not a good situation for a QB who’s struggling with accuracy.

Last offseason
If I remember correctly didn’t we go through this whole thing of trading Jake for either Quinn/Anderson? That would be a strange turn of events if we signed Anderson and they sign Delhomme now.
Have fun Jake
an when you get hurt they can boo you too; Cleveland Browns are a joke franchise and have been ever since they came back into existence in the NFL after the Ravens had been around.
Browns suck and they are going nowhere fast; Good Luck Jake you should have just retired a panther b/c you no longer have the skills to be a starting QB in the NFL.
Typical Browns signing if they do it however.

Hey I'd rather he go to the Browns than anyone else in that division...
not sure why!

Many interesting comments from people--overwhelmingly positive, to my suprise

Do or do not. There is no try.
It makes alot of sense to the Browns
You have a situation where you have a young QB in Brady Quinn, who may be your future answer- or he may not. However, one thing is certain he’s got the physical tools but not the mental ones to succeed.
The only player you’ve ever had on roster to quote, unquote ‘mentor’ him is Derek Anderson, who’s concerned himself primarily with winning the starting job, and is too young to mentor any player.
Enter Delhomme- a guy who could beat Quinn in camp and earn the starting spot. Now you have a 35 year old who realistically understands that he is in the twilight of his career, not a 26 year old former Pro-Bowler who believes he should be the long term answer for a team.
What better way to see if Quinn can be developed than putting him behind a guy who knows how to win a locker room, knows how to forge deep relationships with teammates and one who can truly guide him in the art of calling a good audible, or leading a forth quarter comeback.
I know there is a school of thought that the Browns may be looking to trade Quinn regardless, however, it seems to make all the sense in the world to sit him behind a high character guy like Delhomme and be led by example.

I agree fundamentally
But have to think that if Jake is signed, Brady will be traded (or at least be put on the block). He is getting paid too much for Holmgren to keep as a ‘maybe,’ and is 2-3 years too deep into his rookie deal to be ‘the future’ QB that may or may not pan out.
If Delhomme is added, chances are Holmgren will look for ‘his guy’ to bring in via the draft, and use Delhomme as that transitional vet. You see this every year, whether it be Culpepper/Stafford or Leftwich/Freeman, I get the feeling the Browns will also go in this direction (you see this method often when there is a change in head coach or GM). I’m not sure that the Browns will add this QB of the future in the first round, but the class is deep enough for them to find a future starter in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.
This brings us to the rosterbation…
If Brady is on the block, do the Panthers express any interest? I’d think not, but if I recall he was higher on our draft board than he was for most teams. Plus, with Moore and Quinn being roughly the same age, I have the same reservations with him that I do with Anderson…Will they be ‘team’ guys if they are not starting? Quinn has shown me more that leads me to believe he might be. Nonetheless, its doubtful the Panthers will add a QB looking to be a starter. This might prove to be a bad move with Moore trying to develop confidence, hence the cutting of Jake in the first place. Sorry, a lot of babbling over a moot point…
Do or do not. There is no try.
Actually
Quinn is dirt cheap as a backup, provided you don’t want him to start. He’s only set to make $700,000 in 2010. However, if he takes over 70% of the snaps he gets a $11 million bonus.

Hmm
Is that why the Browns only played him after they had no other choice, i.e. Anderson was injured? Seems like there were some Browns fans with tinfoil on their heads unfolding this conspiracy last year after Derek was stinking it up.
Still, I expect Holmgren to want to handpick his guy if afforded the luxury.
Do or do not. There is no try.
Yeah, last season Quinn needed to only take 55% of the snaps to get his 11 million.
It was the way Quinn’s agent could ensure he got top QB money in a draft where he slid, so they made his contract highly incentive based

I feel horrible..
poor guy might have to wear that ugly ass uniform… and play for the most boring team in the league, not to mention live in Cleveland. Also, I’d hate to see how the fans treat him if he doesn’t pan out there, we were hard enough on him and we’re tame compared to them.
Thought I'd share a fun back and forth between me and Gantt when my rosterbation went a little too far
jametheaussie
@daringantt Crazy move, but D-Will to Browns for #7 overall and Quinn…Would that be enough for Hurney to break up ‘double trouble’?
daringantt
@jamestheaussie I’d RT, but that’s just too crazy to expose to the masses. Quinn’s value right now is not great, and that’s a horrible trade
jamestheaussie
@daringantt I know, I know… sometimes rosterbation can go a little too far
daringantt
@jamestheaussie that’s a great word. i wish i could use that.
jamestheaussie
@daringantt So long as you don’t use it too much you’re fine… overuse it and I hear you’ll go blind.

So I'll know where he got that
when he uses it on ‘Primetime with the Packman’ in response to some ridiculous caller suggesting we trade Beason for Vick, or something equally as terarded.
Do or do not. There is no try.
I'm not taking credit for the word itself

Since we're rosterbating...
I’m on record as vehemently opposed to breaking up Double Trouble, but……
I would trade to the Rams for their #1 pick, to get Suh. Never happen, but what if??
Yes, yes and more yes for me. If it meant ‘House of Spears’ could come to the Panthers… absolutely.
Word is thought that the Rams are smitten with Sam Bradford

I think we could trade up with Detroit and get the #2 pick
And get either Suh or McCoy (though I think St. Louis will take Bradford -they have to draft a franchise QB or they’re not going anywhere for years).
Unless another team is willing to throw a Hershel Walker type deal our way, there’s no way I trade either D-Will or J-Stew unless it’s for the #1 or #2 pick.
As long as the Panthers don't trade for Michael Vick, sign Derek Anderson, or draft Tim Tebow; my sanity (what's left of it, at least) will remain intact for 2010.
we'd have to offer a ridiculous package to get the #2 overall
we’d have to offer a good pick or two, half of double trouble, and perhaps even more
there was a FanShot a while ago where a bunch of Detroit fans were on the fence about even trading D-will for their 2nd round picks… naturally, only a second for D-will is insulting, but I assume they know the Lions and their needs better than we do, so if they are that conservative with their pick, then we shouldn’t expect to get it…..
speculation is fun though… if it was offered, I’d probably want the #2 pick and another mid-round pick to allow D-will to go… call me greedy but established player >>> high hopes for prospect
Ooooo
That is a close call, but I’d rather try to trade up to around 22-23 and snag Dan Williams from Tennessee, which would probably mean trading next year’s first (Something I sincerely hope we do not do).
The other thing is the contract the 1st overall pick demands. He would almost be the highest paid player in the league, which is why you said it would never happen, I know. Obviously that would trend in the perfectly opposite direction from what we have been doing so far this offseason.
Do or do not. There is no try.
I hope Jake doesn't pick the Browns.
I want Jake to succeed next year, and I want it bad. He’d be much better off trying to win a job with the Redskins or the ((I’m gonna kill myself for saying this)) the Raiders.
The Browns are the absolute worst team in the NFL right now. They can probably get better, but that’s where they’re at right now. For a potential starting QB like Jake Delhomme to join their team under that O-Line, poor Jake will get killed.
I hope he thinks better of it.
"Once again the trousers of evil are yanked down by the mocking hands of justice!"-Revshawn
the Browns could actually be competitive if they get some good QB play
They have some questions though. Jerome Harrison looked good to close the year, I liked some of their young wideouts, they need more though, their right side of the O-line needs solidifying, but on offense if Delhomme is competent like he has been in the past, they could score 20-25 points a game. Which brings me to their D, they have a great D-line and LBing corps, they had 40 sacks last season, and they have some good players in the secondary with Eric Wright and Brodney Pool. Berry or Haden would help them out tremendously at #7, and with the depth of this WR class, if they get Delhomme they could get 7-9 wins.

This would SUCK for Jake
Best quote of the day, “If Jake couldn’t find friggin Steven Smith, what’s he going to do when Joshua Cribbs is his best WR?”. And in a West Coast offense???

Jake is actually more suited to a West Coast offense
Give him passes right in front of him rather than mess with his deep ball accuracy.

The deep ball was his b&b before 2008 playoffs
He only holds the record for the longest TD pass in SuperBowl history… I think it still stands. Plus when he gets pressured he is just as dangerous with the short pass… I remember some of his picks against Philly and Arz(playoffs) were short passes.
