Who's really making all the moves?

Pat Yasinkas seems to think it's the big cat...

The owner has had some health issues in recent years, but he always has remained very much in control of this team and I suspect, right now, he’s even more involved in football issues than ever. I know for a fact Richardson is extremely worried about the labor situation in the NFL and is preparing for the possibility of a lockout in 2011. I think he is sending a message to his players and also tightening things up in case there is no football in 2011.

Star-divide

Very interesting... I wonder if his position with the negotiations is affecting his movements...

I know we've speculated about that on here for a while, but now here's someone who has some more insight into what we've been postulating!

I hate to even make this comparison, but I’ve got to be honest: It almost reminds me a little of the 2001 offseason when George Seifert was coaching. The Panthers got rid of all of their old players and it resulted in the disastrous 1-15 season that cost Seifert his job

Ouch... and if I'm not mistaken Pat was here for that one...

and finally, I AGREE!!!

The one thing I urge Carolina fans right now -- and I know it’s not easy -- is to be patient. Let’s wait a bit and see what the flip side to all of this is -- if there is a flip side. Richardson, Fox and Hurney are too smart to just simply gut their team. I’m not saying they’re going to go out and go crazy in free agency. That’s not their style and, besides, there’s not a lot left in free agency. But I think you’ll see them make some moves on some mid-level free agents. While it’s true they don’t have a first-round draft pick right now, that can change between now and late April.

Pat = Facepalm

This sig is dedicated to those cut in the 2009 purge.

These have been business decisions so I thinks its safe to say its JR at the helm

But reference to 2001 is scary though. Yet look at the all the players we had on IR at the end of last season, the 2nd hardest schedule and we still finished 8-8. I too will try to be patient

My comment is again that Fox and Hurney have shown so much emotion about releases...

…that it looked to me like they were TOLD to make the roster cuts, and not necessarily been all for them, themselves.

by bigdavis on Mar 10, 2010 1:09 PM EST reply actions

Why is everyone worried about these cuts??

Economics play a huge part in sports. Many on the media and on the board are acting as though these cut players cannot be replaced?? That is laughable. The only player that has been cut that truly produced was Damione Lewis. He is one of the top interior lineman with getting QB pressures ranking 6th. But why the fuss about Jake Delhomme? Landon Johnson? Nail Diggs? Maake Kemeoatu? He didn’t even play last season and is coming off serious rehab for injury. Brad Hoover? Maybe he was great for the locker room, and I’m sure his teammates will miss him, but many are acting like he makes or breaks our season. Do you really think that their aren’t more leaders on this team? Wake up everyone, this is the NFL! Not the state/gov’t employee system where we keep people around because we like them even though they don’t produce as much as someone else could. Have confidence in Panthers ownership and front office. They know what they are doing.

Damione Lewis

With any luck Lewis will end up resigning along with Tyler Brayton. Both are very valuable and productive players. By the way, of all the offseason moves, I consider the Corey Williams trade to Detroit as the best move so far. Too bad the Panthers couldn’t make a play like that. Oh well, we’ve got Louis Leonard, Tank Tyler, and Corvey Irvin to watch develop. I suspect they will be excellent.

Try to think of these moves as addition by subtraction

Sometimes pieces need to be removed for a progress to occur.

Youth Movement

Players over 30 = Bye bye

The only player I didn’t understand leaving was Dante Wesley, our Special Teams ace

Honestly, he was the only good part of our horrible STs coverage.

was he the one that almost killed a man with a cheapshot

by ieatcrayons on Mar 11, 2010 1:09 AM EST up reply actions

If that's what you want to call it.

I’d more so consider it an amazing hit that came just a split second too soon.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 11, 2010 1:33 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, that wasn't intentional.

He apologized for it.

He’s been our best gunner, but his aggressiveness has been offset by the penalties he’s incurred..

by bigdavis on Mar 11, 2010 9:19 AM EST up reply actions

the hit was legal

it was the timing of the hit that was not. He used his shoulder, and he hit dude in the chest. It was just really early.

Do or do not. There is no try.

Haha

I know the hit, I was watching it…
He definitely could have caused some serious injuries and it was inexcusably early, it was NOT malicious and certainly could not have killed him except under some very bizarre circumstances…

i didnt say you didnt see it i was just refreshing everyones memory and yes i exaggerated i do a lot its a bad habit but it was nasty and i was a little mad at him for it when it happened. he just kept barking like he didnt do anything wrong as the guy laid on the ground. “split second too soon” is an exaggeration and it was a little high it looked like he broke the dudes neck or gave him whiplash..

by ieatcrayons on Mar 11, 2010 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

By my account..

Split second isn’t an exaggeration. But, of course, ‘my account’ could always be wrong.

If anyone would like to break it down frame by frame to give the exact amount of time between “impact” and when the ball actually arrives, that’d be awesome, though I highly doubt it still maintains that much importance. I may work on that a bit later when I’ve got more time.

by D-Ranged1 on Mar 11, 2010 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

its not a big deal really i dont feel that strong about it i just got defensive because this clayton guy

by ieatcrayons on Mar 11, 2010 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

haha man

no offense, I was just tryin’ to be funny!
but also, haven’t seen a lot of you so wasn’t sure if you were just tryin’ to talk bad about the Panthers… hate how people want to crucify Wesley for that hit
