Stefan Logan anyone? 'Yes please!' says the Aussie

According to Fanhouse's article about the return of Antwaan Randle El to Pittsburgh they believe that PR and KR extraordinaire Stefan Logan may be a casualty in the coming weeks.

In logan I see everything the Panthers need, and then some.

Breakdown after the jump

Star-divide

Essentially Fanhouse's argument is that between Mewelde Moore, Mike Wallace, Randle El and Joe Burnett the Steelers have numerous players who can return punts if needed, calling having a specialized punt and kick returner 'a luxury'.

I think most Carolina Panthers' fans would agree: That's a luxury we'd love to treat ourselves too.

Techincally a RB Logan could be a minor player for the 2010 run game, figuring into very specialized situations, but it's his incindiary ability on returns that make him immensely valuable to the Panthers. Here are his 2009 stats:

Kick Return
Year Team G Ret Yds Avg Lng TD 20+ 40+ FC FUM
2009 Pittsburgh Steelers 16 55 1,466 26.7 83 0 43 4 0 1
TOTAL 16 55 1,466 26.7 83 0 43 4 0 1

Punt Return
Year Team G Ret RetY Avg Lng TD 20+ 40+ FC FUM
2009 Pittsburgh Steelers 16 30 280 9.3 25 0 3 0 15 2
TOTAL 16 30 280 9.3 25 0 3 0 15 2

Let's compare those numbers with the Carolina Panthers' top performers of 2009:

Kick Return Statistics
Player Returns Yds Yds/Ret Long TD
Mike Goodson 17 352 20.7 33 0
Tyrell Sutton 14 302 21.6 32 0
Kenny Moore 10 219 21.9 55 0

Punt Return Statistics
Player Returns FC Yds/Ret Long TD
Captain Munnerlyn 31 10 9.0 37 0

Does anyone else thing this match makes as much sense as I do?

Count me in...

We could use a guy like that to bolster our return game. I’m all for it.

I like the sound of that.

With the fumbles though, do you know if those were before or after contact, and how many were lost?

All told sounds great, and if the Panthers picked him up it would definitely show that they were actually focusing on improving our ST this year. It would be so nice for Moore to be starting at the 35- 40 rather than the 10.

No TDs and 3 fumbles = incendiary?

Mmm. Not so sure. There may be a lot of draft picks who would do better.

by bigdavis on Mar 10, 2010 1:07 PM EST reply actions

That’s 3 fumbles on a total of 85 returns.

Munnerlyn, Goodson, Sutton and Moore combines for 72 returns and had 3 total fumbles.

As for the ‘no TDs’ only 14 different players had kick returns for touchdowns and only 3 players had more than one KR TD.

Logan ranked 4th in the NFL in yard per return among players with over 40 kick returns, and was only 0.8 yard per return off Josh Cribbs, who was #1. For my money, that’s incendiary.

YES

We need this guy..

Mardy Gilyard could probably just as good, but what’s he a 2nd-3rd rounder?

Yes, get this guy

I’ve liked him since preseason.

Jake Delhomme, QB Carolina Panthers, 2003-2009.

120 TDs+16000+ passing yards=Good

89 INT's+27 lost fumbles=Bad

Most comeback wins since 2003=Priceless

NO! Don't take Saint Logan away from us!

Seriously though, I wouldn’t mind seeing him go somewhere else. He is severely under-used on the Steelers and doesn’t really fit the play-style. Going somewhere with a quick ground game would suit him well. A good fit IMO.

We increased our offensive production by 1,000 yards but our points by only 3 touchdowns?

Not sure we'd use him much

We might have him in for some trick plays but he’d mostly be a reurn spec.
