My Two Cents on the Julius Pepper's Situation - @ChrisHarrisNFL
Pic via CharlotteObserver.com
Yesterday, Darin Gantt (@DarinGantt), of CharlotteObserver.com, gave me a call wanting to know what I think about the Peppers situation. Here's my two cents...
"(Darin) Strong safety Chris Harris mentioned Davis as one of the players who'll have more on his plate next year as a result of Tuesday's move.
"(Me) We're going to have to do some different things up front if we want to keep getting pressure on the quarterback," Harris said. "The secondary's going to have to hold up stronger than we did last season, because you just can't replace a guy like that.
"Julius wasn't the only guy pressuring the passer, but he was the best we had. So now we're going to have to adjust, change the scheme, maybe use Thomas more coming off the edge, something to get back there.""
Check out the rest of Darin's article RIGHT HERE. It's a good one.

Good to hear from an actual player about this
As much as us fans speculate about stuff, it isn’t often we get to know what the players think.

Nice article.
Chris – what do you think of the possibility of the team bringing in Aaron Kampman? Is he a guy that you feel would fit in well with the defensive unit that we currently have?
Thank you Chris!
Glad to hear from you again. ^^

I think they should throw in a few plays out of a 4-2-5 consisting of two tackles, Brown & Johnson @ DE, Beason & Davis @ LB, Gamble & Marshall @ CB, Martin @ FS, Godfrey @ SS (where Harris would traditionally be), leaving Harris to roam freely as a second SS and make plays happen. Sacks, forced fumbles, interceptions, he’d be free to do it all.
I believe we did similar last year with different personnel.
We did
Except that hybrid LB/DB was Dante Wesley, we know he likes to hit, hence the fire he brings to special teams (not that I condone his hit on Clifton Smith but my god, he jacked him up). Plus he is the one who made that play against the Redskins on the punt that forced the muff. He is certainly spunky, I like Wesley. I like him in that role better than Godfrey or Martin.
I’m interested to see what happens at the FS position. Martin was spectacular and after all the speculation about Godfrey losing his job, he came back and played the best ball of his career.

Not that Godfrey had set the bar very high to play the best of his career.

It was also used during Thomas Davis' rookie season as a weapon against Vick.

Yes, literally the 4-2-5 was
But the scheme was a bit different—as TD was more of a ’spy" than a guy expected to cover the underneath stuff.
Do or do not. There is no try.
'Twas...
But it was given the same designation.
