Panthers' fans: Who do you like in Superbowl XLIV?

Less than a week until the big game. Anyone have any outlandish plans? Any fun Superbowl traditions?

Most importantly, who does everyone like in the game?

Star-divide

Personally, I like the Colts. Even if Freeney ends up not being able to play I just don't think the Saints will be able to hang with Peyton Manning. I think the Saints will be in the lead going into the half, but Peyton picks them apart in the second.

Agree, disagree? Who would you like to win the big one?

peyton manning picks apart tattered saints secondary

they were on fire earlier in the year but they’ve run out of gas and injuries have taken their toll

Now imagine if the panthers were there instead of the saints, do you really think the colts could answer double trouble? That’d be a much more entertaining game than I’m expecting this to be. There’s gonna be about as much rushing offense as there was in the Pro Bowl.

I’m actually hoping for an absolute pouring raining deluge to hit Miami.

Watching the two dome teams scramble in the mud will make the game more entertaining methinks.

I'd call in sick.

That’s the one day a year I suddenly catch a one-day black plague.

Priorities man! Priorities!

I remember they tried to make me work late when I had the fantasy draft with you guys. I didn’t even listen to that crap. What I told them, I can’t say, because I’m sure that there are little kids that look at this blog.

I'm cheering for the Oakland Raiders.

Let the Saints and the Colts wear themselves out so that the Raiders can come down from the heavens and slaughter them both in cold blood! Mwahahahaha!

I picked Indy, but I'm going for the Saints.

New Orleans needs some good news.

Plus that way free agency will ravage them as happens to all SB champions. They also rep the NFC South.

For me its time to root for the NFC South

So when we knock them off next year it will mean more!

YES! That's EXACTLY how I feel!

Remember how great it was in ‘03 to beat the defending champion Bucs? It’s gonna feel just as good to beat the defending champion Saints.

…twice.

greatest superbowl qb duel of all-time (MP will appreciate this) according to kerry byrne of cnnsi.com

1. Tom Brady vs. Jake Delhomme (Super Bowl XXXVIII — February 2004)

As far as Super Bowls go, there was little hype before New England’s 32-29 win over Carolina. The Patriots were constantly lamented for their boring style of play, while the Panthers were seen as something of a lucky upstart.

Carl Steward of the Oakland Tribune captured the national sentiment in a famously negative critique of the contest: “We know this stinkbug will be forced down our throats, whether we like it or not. It’s just the nature of the Super Bowl hype machine … Honestly now, how can you have a glitzy, gaudy Super Bowl without any stars, let alone superstars?” (This was before Brady became a prolific passer and magazine cover boy.)

What unfolded was anything but boring. In one of the more curious and entertaining contests in Super Bowl history, the Panthers and Patriots went scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the opening half, ripped off four scores in the final two minutes, went scoreless again in the third quarter, then exploded for 37 points in a breathless fourth quarter.

Among the furious final-frame highlights: DeShaun Foster’s 33-yard touchdown run, a soaring 85-yard bomb from Delhomme to Muhsin Muhammad (the longest TD connection in Super Bowl history), a touchdown pass from Brady to linebacker Mike Vrabel and a two-point conversion run by New England’s Kevin Faulk.

Oh yeah: the teams not only combined for 37 fourth-quarter points, but also produced 18 of those points points in the final three minutes, capped by Adam Vinatieri’s 41-yard field goal with four seconds to play. When all was said and done, Delhomme and Brady had combined for a Super Bowl record 677 passing yards and six touchdown passes.

The pigskin public was gripped by the unexpected drama: with 144 million viewers, Super Bowl XXXVIII was the most watched TV program in American history (since surpassed by the last two thrillers in Super Bowls XLII and XLIII).

Not bad for a stinkbug.

I don't doubt it

That was the best Superbowl I can remember. A tight, hard fought defensive game in the 1st half, then an all out shootout in the second half finishing in dramatic fashion.

I can’t remember a more entertaining Superbowl, it had everything

I'm definitely thinking the Saints have the better defense

which will determine the outcome.

Exactly what I'm thinking.

That’s why I (unfortunately) think the Saints will win.

by RV21 on Feb 5, 2010 11:48 AM EST up reply actions

I think Manning is set up to have a big game, so I'm picking the Colts to win....

but I really don’t have a preference who wins as I don’t have strong feelings about either team one way or another. We dont have any special Super Bowl plans, we’ll be doing our usual gameday spread of grilled Habanero Wings & Yuenglings.

My level of interest in this year’s Super Bowl teams can be summed up as follows:

Bring On Daytona Baby!! Only 12 more days to The Great American Race!

Cool...I'm hoping you jinx the Colts with that Nascar talk!

LOL....consider the Colts jinxed just by the virtue of me picking them to win.

my record in picking playoff games this postseason has been far less than stellar ;-)

I lost track of mine..

Though I’d guess it is below .500 by now. I think the Saints victory knocked me below the line.

I DID NOT VOTE

I am no fan of a particular team, but I am going SAINTS. They deserve it and very badly, considering the events and lows of 43-year history.

1) Drew Brees will throw at least 3 TDs
2) SAINTS’ running backs will score at least 2 TDs
3) SAINTS will force at leas 2 turnovers and at least one of them will lead to a score
4) Jeremy Shockey will be a major factor.

Bottome line:
SAINTS 37 COLTS 28——-Or——-SAINTS 41 COLTS 30

Saints

I’ve always thought we’ve had a brotherly rivalry going on with the other NFC South teams. When we play them, I want to crush them and flat out embarrass them. But when they’re playing other teams, I hope they do well. Definitely when one of them makes the Super Bowl, I want to see them win.

I know I’m “supposed” to pull for the NFC since the Panthers aren’t able to represent in the big game this year…

but I can’t stand the Saints and I’m pulling for the Colts. The Saints need to slide back into obscurity with the Packers and Cardinals and be the joke of the NFL again…

Okay so, the Colts will come out the way they did against the Jets, and Brees will jump all over the decimated Colts’ D. Say, a 14-17 point lead for the Saints by the half. Then Peyton Manning will Arrive, with a capital “A”. He will fight and claw and scratch and somehow devise a way to get the Colts to within a score late in the game. And then the Saints will do whatever I do when I watch Manning lead that team. It’s just one sentence…..

How.
Do.
You Stop.
That Guy.

Colts win on an empty-clock FG, compliments of Peyton Manning’s complete ability, in one of the greatest Super Bowl shootouts ever, 37-35. I was dreaming when I wrote this, so sue me if it goes too straight.
