We must love a QB controversy in Carolina. First we went rabid with 'Armanti Edwards in the Wildcat' controversy and then we had the Matt Moore vs. Jimmy Clausen debate when both QBs were struggling. Now that Moore is on IR and having no other debatable option on the roster Panthers fans have now reached into the college ranks to prop up their strawman competition. Hence we are now in overtime meltdown discussing Jimmy Clausen vs Andrew Luck (who still has a couple college games to play).
Seriously folks I'm being sincere in requesting the discussion, not trying to be a dick or anything if it sounded like that.
So let's have one last debate until the offseason on this supposed QB controversy. If you got something to say one way or the other, if you've made up your mind, then here is your chance so we don't have to expend another thread intended for other topics.
Here's what I'm thinking at the moment, after the jump...
If Clausen pulls out a couple wins and the Panthers don't get the #1 pick then he essentially creates his own job security. The Panthers should use their top pick on a different position.
Should the Panthers not win enough games to avoid the #1 pick I'm not necessarily saying we should take a QB. If this scenario should play out and Andrew Luck grades out at #1 then its hard to not pull the trigger. A rookie salary scale will make having both QBs on the roster doable financially. Take the QB at #1 and let them battle it out in camp in a no-lose for the Panthers scenario in my view.
For this discussion I understand that the potential hiring of Jim Harbaugh could alter the picture drastically. Since the Panthers most certainly will hire a coach long before the draft I'm going to assume Harbaugh is not the choice. It's just too much of a long shot in my view.
So I'm hoping to wait until after week 17 to discuss this again...I can only hope!!
