The future of our team at QB still is so exciting to me. I'm curious to see what will happen. I know some people are all in favor of drafting Luck. Some are getting hot and bothered about Cam Newton. I'm trying to not jump on anyones bandwagon(although I'm easily persuaded)... So here's a short little blip on who I don't want and who and what I'm really open for...
Who I don't want: Cam Newton
1. He had one game where he attempted more than 25 passes. Additionally, he ranks #86 in pass attempts. Pretty shoddy for a spread offense QB.
2. He started for one single season.
3. The unknown Dan Persa of Northwestern, has more attempts, completions, and a higher completion percentage than Newton and no one gives a rats ass about him. Scott Tolzien from Wisconsin also had more attempts, completions, and a higher completion percentage than Cam and yep… this guy isn’t high on anyone’s draft board either.
He did single handedly win a few games for Auburn, but this is a slower college game than what he’d face in the NFL. Newton is a good athlete on a good team… but in my eyes, far from what is needed to be an NFL QB. Needless to say, I'm probably bias. For some reason, I'm not a Cam fan...
Who I'm open with right now:
Andrew Luck, Ryan Mallett, Jake Locker, Andy Dalton or Colin Kaepernik. I haven't watched enough on any of these guys to say, "Hell yeah! (insert young QB) is our man!" Some of these guys have been interesting. I'm not sure of anyones draft status. I am merely observing possibilities.
I'm also open for:
Bringing in a good veteran to manage the game and help Clausen progress. Veteran leadership and confidence would help Clausen out a ton. I don't think Clausen is impossible. He has had absolutely nothing and no one for guidance in Carolina. Rip Scherer should not be the guy that's acclimating Jimmy to the pro game. Scherer was yet another failure from Cleveland. It's kind of funny... Scherer and Davidson were co-workers in Cleveland from 2005 to the end of 2006. ...Why the hell do we hire these guys from Cleveland?
My honest hope for next season:
Next year, I want at least one solid reason(not the lofty thoughts of changes at QB) to be excited about this team again. Hell, at this point, I'd be okay with a losing record next year. I just want to see something moving in a positive direction. For every positive, these Panthers overshadow it with four negatives. Win or lose, I want that desire to tune into the game every week in anticipation... not fear and dread. Fire everyone, bring in free agents, draft like a pro, or do it all... I don't care. The fanbase was tested last season with all the issues at QB, weak playcalling, and questionable calls by Fox. This season, we haven't only been tested, we've been hog-tied and dragged across the desert of false hope on a weakening rope of faith. Panthers front office, please make this fanbase proud and happy again. Pretty please?
