Wow what a game. How many times did we think this game was over before it finally was? The Panthers came back from the dead, on their own 5 yard with less than aminute to go and still drove down to set up Kasay's potential game winner, only yo have it clank off the left upright. This game had plenty of the usual Panther ugliness but there was plenty of 'good' stuff. Good as in Mike 'Goodie' Goodson. Goodie logged 136 yards rushing and receiving and a TD, including an amazing 32 yarder to give the Panthers life on their final drive.

Though QB Jimmy Clausen's stat line won't make Sportscenter 16 of 28 for 195 yds and an INT, the kid showed some real composure under fire and simply kept getting back up and making throws. The pass to LaFell that set up the final kick was a beauty (great catch by LaFell too). We've been saying the Jimmy is not only auditioning to be the Panthers starter next season but hopefully showing them they don't  need to spend their top pick on a QB. I think he made a nice step forward in that regard.

Here's my quick hits for the game with more analysis later:

  • The Panthers scored their first 1st quarter TD of the season against a Browns defense that had not yielded a 1st drive TD all season
  • RB Mike Goodson has 55 yards rushing on 14 carries (3.9 ypc) and a TD; he added 81 yards on 8 receptions as he was a two way threat all game
  • Clausen threw one bad all day, an INT by Joe Haden that seemingly sealed the victory for the Browns (but the Panthers still came back)
  • The Panther defense forced 3 Browns turnovers, 2 INTs and a fumble
  • TE Dante Rosario had 3 key catches running out of the slot (how long have we been clamoring for that?)
  • CB Captain Munnerlyn had a great game; he returned an INT for a TD and added a huge 32 yard punt return in the 2nd half
  • DE Charles Johnson has 5 tackles, a sack and put pressure on Delhomme all day
  • LB Jon Beason had a INT and 5 tackles
  • LB James Anderson led the Panthers with 9 combined tackles
  • Browns RB Peyton Hillis was a complete force, putting up 131 yds rushing and 3 TDs; he also added 63 yds receiving on 6 catches; at times he was simply unstoppable except the Panthers did get a critical 4th down stop on him late
  • K John Kasay made 3 of 5 FGs, missing the game winner that hit the left upright with no time left on the clock
  • New Panrthers LB Jason Williams got the start and put up 6 tackles and fumble recovery
  • I saw a lot to be optimistic about Panther fans. What about you?
