This week we face the Cleveland Browns in a game of intrigue (Fox still hasn't announced Clausen as starter) and the return of old friends (Jake Delhomme starting for Cleveland). It will undoubtedly by an emotional contest for all concerned as the Carolina Panthers' defense will need to be hitting (hopefully) their venerable leader from year's past.
This week I decided to choose a brew that more than anything else is an honorary pick for Jake Delhomme. Realistically this could be the last game he starts in the NFL. If Colt is able to return next week for the Browns and he remains their back-up wouldn't it be apropos for Jake to finish his starting career against the Panthers?
The beer pick after the jump.
The Brewery: Foundered in 1986 just 30 miles north of New Orleans, LA the Abita Brewing Company is private owned by just a small group of shareholders, all of whom are local to the area. No Abita brewed beer has any preservatives, keeping it as close to pure as possible.
The Brew: Turbodog is a brown ale that is the perfect example of the style. Malty, syrupy with an almost chocolate like quality. I know in the past people have said they find stouts and porters too heavy, but don't confuse a brown ale with those styles. If you've had Newcastle, that's a highly available commercial brown ale.
How it relates to the game: Abita is a brewery from Louisiana, it's a brown ale and the name is Turbodog. It seems to fit Jake Delhomme this year to a tee.
Price Point: $6-$9 per 6-pack
Where to buy: Can be found in wine/beer stores.
