Good day Panther faithful and brew buddies. This week was a tumultous one, and I hope people drowned their mid week sorrows with an ice cold non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee in honor of Dwayne Jarrett.
This week we return to the real stuff and though a had a few different ideas rumbling around my cranium with the announcement that Todd Collins would be starting Sunday rather than the injured Jay Cutler everything fell into place. So, without further ado, our brew of the week!
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
The Brewery: Rogue brewery out of Newport, OR was foundered in 1988 by two University of Oregon fraternity brothers who had a passion for craft beer. A small customer base in the picturesque Pacific Northwest slowly grew by word of mouth into a single brew pub and distribution throughout the US.
The Brew: Dead Guy's style is a Maibock, which is typically a Spring beer, but can be enjoyed all year round. A Bock is a kind of lager, and a Maibock is slightly lighter. The Dead Guy has really strong malts giving it a full texture and taste. Normally with very malty beers they can have a rather offputting aftertaste, but Rogue has managed to balance this perfectly. 6.50% ABV
How it relates to the game: Jay Cutler is on the sidelines for a reason: His OL giving up 10 sacks last Sunday. This week 38 year old Todd Collins is getting the start and Everette Brown said he is especially fired up for Sunday's game. Sprinkle in some Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson and I think it's safe to say that Collins is a Dead Guy.
Price Point: In the Carolinas this brew is sold in 1 pt, 6 oz large bottles that typically sell for $4-$6 each.
Where to buy: Wine stores with good craft beer selections are your best bet. I have seen it in the odd grocery store, but I normally guy it from Total Wine.
