I am new to SB Nation but I have read Cat Scratch Reader for about a year now. I have just decided to post. A brief history of myself. I lived in NC from 1991 (when I was 11) until 2008. I decided to move back to my home country, Malaysia., in 2008. So now I can only keep up with my beloved Panthers through the internet. I have always been a Panthers Fan ever since the first season. I was a Cowboy fans before the existence of Carolina Panthers. My actual thought on the current offensive roster after the jump. Please excuse my grammar and the lack of statistical info.
I hope everyone agrees with me that we have never had this many talented receivers and backs. Our best receiver was Wesley Walls before the emergence of Steve Smith. Don't get me wrong, I like Moose and I think he is a very talented and solid receiver, but he is not in the same level as Wesley Walls or Steve Smith. Moose is a solid #2 at best. I don't even want to talk about Rae-Rae. Patrick Jeffers, one-year wonder or not, I don't know. Injury ended his his career early, actually too early, just a year after his thousand yards season. I still remember the play when he got injured. Makes me sick and it was in a meaningless Pre Season game too. I guess that's why I hate the Steelers. I believe Smith is in his prime now so if he is traded, that means that the front office does not believe that we will be a SB contender anytime soon. Ok, the backs, I hated Fred Lane, I love Biakabatuka only when he is healthy, which was like almost never. Our only Pro-Bowl running back was Stephen Davis, but he was only good for one year. Now, we have not one but two running backs who are two of the best in the league. Remember the three-headed monster (Dallas Cowboys) with T. Aikman, M. Irwin, and E. Smith? We definitely have more talent at the skills position than the 3-headed monster, but what we are lacking is the Franchise QB. Remember T. Dilfer and his superbowl winning team? That offense was a joke except for J. Lewis and J. Ogden, but they were still able to win the Super Bowl. All I'm saying is our main problem now is our offensive line and the lack of an experienced QB. If we kept all those vets (we really should have kept Hoover, he is cheap and a big part of the rushing offense), signed a couple more (since it is an uncapped year) to help before the season started, we still would not have done much better. Last year, our backs were running at will, but not this year because of our O-line. We will only know the true capability of our team if and when Otah comes back. When the running game gets going again, and Clausen has time to throw, then we'll know how good or bad are Gettis, Lafell, Goodson, Rosario, Edwards, Clowney, and most importantly, Clausen.
If, and it will be a big if, Otah comes back at 100%, and Schwartz can take over RG, our O-Line should be dominating again. Double Trouble should be able to tear up opposing defense again. If this happen and our passing offense still sucks, then we need to sign a QB like McNabb next year. I hope and I also believe that if our running game gets going again like last year, and Pickles has time to throw, he will show the Rams that they made a mistake by drafting Bradford instead of him. Oh, he will also make Bradshaw feel stupid too, just adding to the hatred I have for the Steelers. Fellow Panthers Fans, our Offense will be AWESOME and very fun to watch soon, very soon.
