Although I'm sure Buffalo will probably end up with the first pick in the draft, we'll be top 5 if nothing else (I hold out blind faith for 11-5 right now lol, but that's the delusional optimist in me :p); so I guess it's time to start the early prognostications....

I've heard A.J. Green thrown around a lot recently (with some Julio jones mentions here and there), but I have a fundamental issue with drafting receivers that high. I mean, look at the draft over the past decade and you'll see that a good majority of first round busts are devoted to receivers (not all, but I think it's fair to say the success rate on 1st round WR's is low). Now, this doesn't mean WR is a bad choice, but for a position that is as dependent on a number of different positions doing well, it's usually very hard to justify ponying up for a receiver that high in the draft. Having said that though, I'm impressed by Green (who is on a TERRIBLE UGA team) and wouldn't completely mind the pick, but if we are to go for him I'd rather trade down a little bit so we don't end up in a crabtree situation or some ridiculous shit like that (no rookie is really worth top 10 money...it's ridiculous how much they get in signing bonuses alone!). Hell, we might be able to fineagle a second rounder along with someone elses first rounder in exchange for the high pick.

Personally, I'd love to see us spring for a DT (I like Landri and Johnson, but as was evident when Jenkins was here...a DOMINANT DT does wonders for our defenses); considering one could be worked into our rotation with relative ease it seems like a safe and smart pick for us, and there's definitely no shortage of D-line talent in this upcoming draft. I love what I've seen out of Thomas(?) from alabama this year, but am interested to see how Marv Austin's draft status is affected by his being kicked off the UNC team (he was stupid about this whole NCAA bit for sure, but he didn't do anything egregiously offensive...so I'm not that concerned about his character)...if we could snag him at a lower round that would be an outstanding steal for our team!

Anywho, I'm interested in seeing what all the CSR community has to say on the subject.....it's certainly never too early to prognosticate (Mel Kiper's entire career is based off of it lol)!
