Because he (reportedly) wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, and the team isn’t prepared to go that high.
Great video, if Pep isn’t willing to budge from his big contract demands (reportedly) he will definitely be missed.

I could handle him being the highest paid DE... no problem
But more than Haynesworth’s $100 million… without knowing what the 2011 cap will be?
Personally, that would take a lot of convincing on my end.

I really think that if we loose him this D will not be the same at all. We need Pep on the other side, especially for E. Brown’s sake. The guy can be a monster, and loosing him WILL wreck this defense.
We need to keep him, almost by any means necessary.

Losing Pep will devastate us defensively..
But sometimes it takes devastation before you rebuild into something better. Now, let me be clear, by no means do I believe we have anyone “better” @ DE on our roster, nor do I believe we could come into possession of anyone. However, I do believe we could use the extra money to better our team over all. Again, to be clear, I’m not saying we should, or that we need to, but if it comes to be that such must happen, at least there is some positive ground to be gained here. I’d love for Peppers to hang around for his entire career and retire a Panther on his way to the HoF but if he must leave, I’d put my confidence in Brown and Johnson leading our pass rush next year, with Brayton rotating in for both of them as necessary. If Pep leaves, a rookie pick up would be nice.
Some of you may find it worth a read, Everette Brown was chosen on ProFootballFocus.com’s “All Rookie Team”. Charles Johnson & Ryan Kalil were chosen for their “All 2nd Year Team”.
Peppers was listed as the 8th best pass rushing DE in the league in their pass rushing productivity post.

After looking around...
I’ve become a bit a fan of DE Jammie Kirlew.

I should note I was specifically seeking out possible 6th rounders.
