Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart to Have Foot Surgery Today
Darin Gantt: Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart just passed along word to the world via his twitter account (link) that he was having foot surgery today.
That explains a lot, from the persistent soreness in his left Achilles to the way they managed him all year. He practiced eight times from spring minicamps to the start of the regular season, and didn't practice on a Wednesday at all once the season started.

He probably played most games with the needle.
Better to get the surgery now and get him back in time.

And I thought they were just pampering him...lol!

Really?
Ouch. Did you think the same thing about Steve McNair a few years back?

Yeah,,,but McNair was faking it
J-Stew is just a creampuff…he just needs to get in shape. I mean really look at how out of shape this guy is:

Leave it to a certain someone to take a light hearted remark and turn it into something completely different.
He’s going to be a beast next year. D-Will & J-Stew, the only two running backs in the NFL to set the record one year and break it the next.
Helpful reminder for James at seasons end: 2nd Rnd CSR Fan Draft Pick.
next season
these are the kinds of things that make coaches want two good backs. this sort of thing makes it so we have to keep d-will and stew. over the last two seasons, we have not gone 16 straight games where both are 100%. not only that, but neither has had a 300 carry season.
+1000
If we had made the playoffs we would not have been hurt losing D-Will for a game or vice versa. Both are capable of big plays and big games. Both can score in the red zone and both can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Have you guys been watching Reggie Bush?
That’s what happens when you have a fresh back in the playoffs. We’ll have two. :D

Yeah, but the Saints wont win the Superbowl
Exhibit A: Reggie said he would propose to Kim Kardashian if the Saints win the Superbowl.
Therefore, by my powers of deduction, even Reggie knows they don’t stand a chance.

LOL...
Not so tough to be “fresh” against that Cards D.

Hypo question..o...
If Stewart were on a team such as the Titans that have nothing to play for but pushing their running back to the record books (I think it’s pathetic when a team has to make a consentual effort to get in the books instead of having a back talented enough to do it in addition to what the team is doing itself), would Stewart be a 2,000 yard back? Would he see a severely shortened career being the type of back that he is?
Helpful reminder for James at seasons end: 2nd Rnd CSR Fan Draft Pick.
Yes, his career would be severly shortened
As will Chris Johnson’s.
Johnson rushed 358 times this season… that’s a ridiculous amount. I’d rather have J-Stew any day… if Johnson loses half a step his game is gone.

Actually...
358 isn’t so bad. Barely in the top 50 all-time. The magic number for disastrous seasons the year after is 370. Doesn’t seem like much of a difference, but that’s what history’s shown. And Johnson is a different back in that he avoids punishment because he’s so fast and he just gets by people.

Then if 370 is the magic number, we're good.
With 221 and 216 carries, Stewart and Williams should -since it’s just a matter of numbers - have careers that last approx 60% longer than the norm.
I agree that Johnson is a different back
I just think because he relies on his speed so much he wont have as long a career as some other backs. I think you might see him crash to earth much sooner than a Shaun Alexander or LaDanian Tomlinson did.

Or he could keep his speed
A la Joey Galloway. His style is much more shifty, he doesn’t take big hits. Tomlinson and Alexander took a lot more hits than Johnson did.

I'm voting crash and burn..
Just don’t like the guy.

That's another good point.
Speed is something that goes away faster in most players.
