Panthers fire Danny Crossman
Darin Gantt has just reported that the Carolina Panthers have fired ST coach Danny Crossman.
I think it's pretty obvious why this happened.

From profootballtalk.com: The Panthers struggled this year on special teams, finishing 30th in kickoff coverage, 29th in punt coverage, 30th on kickoff returns, and 17th on punt returns.

Regardless of what Darin Gantt has to say, this performance has little to do with Peppers’ contract hampering Crossman’s personnel (as MP has always said in Crossman’s defense) — it’s been the case for years, long before Pep’s contract entered the picture. The guy can’t scheme or implement.
It's "been the case?"
Hardly. He’s had ST units that have consistently ranked in the middle of the pack. This year, with no money to spend on anybody but bottom-of-the-barrel rookies and other young players, we fell to the bottom of the league. You don’t think there’s a difference?

Quit being a Darin Gantt apologist
Sometimes he’s right; sometimes he’s not. If he were right all the time about NFL observations, he’d be on a team’s payroll, not a beat writer in Rock Hill.
I was demonstrating that Peppers’ salary demands had nothing to do with the sub-par performances of Crossman’s punt and kick units, as their mediocrity predated anything related to Peppers.
Now please don’t go over that well-trodden but easily refuted ground about the Dallas paper’s rankings. We all know the only reason the Panthers’ ST rating was as average as it was was solely because of our kickers’ talents, not anything that Crossman coached his coverage or return units on.
Dante Wesley:
“You’ve got to look at what he had to work with. It seemed like we were bringing new guys in each and every week. Then with the injuries we had, the backups are playing bigger roles on offense and defense, and we never had the same group. With that, I mean, Danny was teaching things over and over and over, because he never knew who he was going to have. It can be frustrating, because so many guys are coming through. You want to try to do it by yourself, but you can’t. That’s not how it works.”

I don't care what anyone says. I seeeent it wit my own two eyes...he was bad
And to make it worse, Crossman’s predecessor, Scotty O’Brien set such a high standard—and his mullet was so boss.
Is this the guy?

Seems the mullet is gone…darn.

When did Mr. Finney leave the class room for the football field?
Helpful reminder for James at seasons end: 2nd Rnd CSR Fan Draft Pick.
That's who John Fox was after.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Fox called legendary special teams coach Bobby April on Wednesday night to see if he was interested in the opening here. But by the time Fox called, April already had agreed to a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
