Breaking News - Beason and Stewart practice and captains named

I just got Tweets from two seperate sources indicating that Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart and LB Jon Beason both "fully participated" in practice today 9/9/09 and according to John Fox "looked really good".  The only player held out was Chris Harris for a bruised knee. In my opinion this is GREAT NEWS!

On a seperate note the Panthers named team captains for the season; Jon Beason, Julius Peppers, Jordan Gross, John Kasay, and Jake Delhomme

I agree, this is great news!

I have been very busy at work recently and then out of town last weekend, has Davis been practicing?

This news has given me a sense of optimism for sunday.

My main concern against the Eagles is Westbrook catching screens, flares, and other passes, but with both Davis and Beason practicing that is alleviated a bit.

Davis is the medicine for Westbrook

I can only hope that Westbrook isn’t in game speed yet due to the injury and layoff but Thomas Davis should be used as a spy on him if he comes out of the backfield.

Plus the Eagles LG Herremans is out

and rookie Macho Harris is starting at FS! Also, back-up LB Mays is out.

One last item, RT Shawn Andrews is talking smack about facing Peppers:
“I don’t want to get into a hissing match – but at the same time, I’m a beast, too,” he said yesterday after practice at the NovaCare Complex. “It’s not a me-and-Peppers thing. It’s a team deal. But, since you asked about the individual battle – I’m a beast, too. Let the beasting begin, if you will.”

Of course Pep will initially line up on LT Jason Peters

Give me a Break !! LOL !!!!

Peppers is better than both of their tackles and we do our talking on the field like professional and not in or through various media outlets !!

It shows the Eagles line is a little worried.

And they should be. Thomas Davis has the speed to catch Westbrook and last time I checked the Iggles have never done great against Peppers.

I cannot wait until Sunday

Now that I've heard of all their injury problems

and all the new players, the loss of their DC (tragic yes, but good for us) it gives me more hope we can pull out a decisive victory.

Andrews is a bonafide KOOK but.....

he can play pro-bowl caliber football once he puts his mind to it (which finally was last week—he missed the rest of preseason with a phantom back injury while much to the chagrin of the Eagles organization he started posting home made rap songs about swimmer Michael Phelps on you tube—no kidding.) Free agent signee Peters has been a dissapointment thus far and it’s really surprising the Eagles haven’t tried to resign Jon Runyan. The Eagles O-line has been terrible in the preseason and they’re really counting on Andrews to step up big time on Sunday. Should be interesting! GO PANTHERS!!

I bet the Panthers can get in his head

and get him to commit some stupid penalties. Maybe get a brother squabble going.

Just heard Shawn Andrews couldn't practice today (thrs)...

Phila Daily News is reporting he’s complaining that his back is acting up again and that Jon Runyan was brought in for a workout this morning.
I would assume Winston Justice will get the start if Andrews can’t go on Sunday.

Yes.

In a game where the Eagles tied the NFL record for most sacks allowed in one game (12).

I like the fact their OL has had little time to gel.

Especially since most of them are new or in new positions.

I hope we exercise Goodson a bit in the way they would Westbrook on Sunday.

Goodson Package

I bet that Fox/Davidson come up with a little package of 4-5 plays to spell Double Trouble and give him some playing time and accent what he does well. Give him a confidence boost.

Yes, bring him out 2nd half when

his speed will surprise them.

As do I. I just recently moved to Florida due to reasons and now I’m surrounded by Buc fans (Just north of Tampa here). Ugh. My fellow Panther fans are gone!

All Practiced!

The news I got is the only player held out was Chris Harris… Thomas Davis has been practicing.

Here's why Peppers is a captain (per John Fox)

On what it says about defensive end Julius Peppers to be voted captain considering his offseason: “Everybody has different offseasons. I think Julius has earned that respect here both as a player and as a guy. I think his teammates know him a lot better than maybe the media does. I think it says a lot about who he really is when your teammates vote you a captain.”

by bigdavis on Sep 9, 2009 4:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

thanks

that was the best(my favorite) quote I have read the entire offseason. absolutely love it

Finally !!!

Great news on Stewart and Beason. Hopefully they are resting up and not being pushed to hard at practice this week. We need both of them b/c our team is going to live and die by the offense this season. As far as capt’s go it really doesn’t matter to me although I think it is funny Delhomme gets to be one for another season LOL. Surprised to see the Smitty doesn’t get to wear the “C” this year; just interesting if ya know what I mean !! As for Harris it is more of a precaution more than anything else.
