Actually...

…it appears we trimmed it to 51 players. So we’ve got room to sign two more. We kept 5 DEs and 3 DTs…so we’ll certainly pick up another DT…and maybe Mark Jones as a PR? We’re also carrying just 6 LBs (which is a surprise, considering we had 9 on the roster last season)…and 4 WRs (which isn’t a surprise since Mike Goodson can fill in as a fifth).

Definitely a DT...

…Possibly Jones. I expect they will be filled by Monday at the latest.

returner

Justin Miller and Yamon Figurs were cut. They were very good return men for their teams, and Miller would serve as a back-up CB also…an injury emergency type. Also, I see it’s official we kept Moore. I’m glad about that. Now I wanna see what DTs we bring in. I’m assuming we’re within 48 hours of a couple signings. We have to be.

One more completely unrelated topic…I think we need to use the no huddle more often. I’ve been thinking about this. I mean not all the time, but at random times. Maybe we’ve gone three straight possessions with having to punt, so we come out with a no huddle that includes a direct snap to D-Will, and other such wrinkles. I think we need to take it to a new level this year, but because of the date, if it hasn’t been implemented by now, it’s not going to be.

Do you guys really think we’re going to sign a return guy or just go with what we have so we can get 2 or 3 more DL? I think Goodson can be taught to catch punts and KOs, so let’s go with that option. But if he fumbles in week 1, then all bets are off.

Anyone heard anything about beef stew’s injury? Will he play next week?

I expect Alfonso Boone and Mark Jones to sign.. interesting fact:

Mark Jones who has been on Tennesse Titans since yesterday…

his Facebook account.. network is still Charlotte, NC.. eh?

Best available-any position?

I dont see the need for Mark Jones this season, we have lots of speedy guys who will eventually hang on to the ball. Using a draft approach of getting the best player available, after a DT who would you pick up?

Roster Moves

I saw the J Leman cut coming because we simply have too many good LBs, although you gotta love the guy for his attitude and tenacity….but I did not forsee the Marlon Favorite cut because I thought he was solid and was gonna be the fatty clogger in the middle we need, but apparently not. It is obvious that with this move the Panthers are looking for an experienced, veteran DT, and it is very likely that it could be Alfonso Boone…with what has been said at ESPN.com, I would not be surprised…

By the way, we aren’t re-signing Mark Jones (unless our PR game is terrible which is not probable) mainly because we fired him and if we REALLY wanted him we wouldn’t have fired him, ehh?? plus Capt Munnerlyn and/or K Moore will be fine returning punts…

What I want to know is who is on the Practice Squad??

We didn't so much FIRE Mark Jones...

…as let him go. He was a free agent. We brought him in because we lost our normal KR/PR in Ryne Robinson. And, we probably planned on taking a look at some younger guys out of the draft, etc. Bottom line, Jones would have been too pricey to keep. So we released him. It wasn’t because we didn’t like what he brought to the table as a return man.

Practice squad

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t players have to clear waivers first before they can be signed to the PS?

I think I’m right on that, and if that’s the case expect to see:
- Hunter Cantwell
- Jeremy Leman
- Marlon Favorite
- Jammall Lee

on our PS

You're correct.

If no one claims them then we can put them on the PS. I also agree with your picks for the PS if they make it though.
