Panthers Name New Team President
The Panthers have announced the replacement for Mark Richardson as Panthers Team President.
Danny Morrison has been named President of the Carolina Panthers, Owner/Founder Jerry Richardson announced today. Morrison has served the last four years as Director of Athletics at Texas Christian University. He will assume responsibilities in approximately one month.
Here's what the Big Cat had to say about Morrison:
"We are very familiar with Danny, and he is very familiar with our organization," Richardson said. "He has been successful as a college administrator and commissioner and brings a business expertise and sense of community that fits the position perfectly."
Hat Tip to docnolz for breaking the news!
Here's a little on his success leading the horny frogs:
Morrison oversaw the development of TCU into one of the most successful college programs in the nation. During his four years at TCU, he helped usher the Horned Frogs into the Mountain West Conference. During the 2008-09 athletic season, TCU had 16 of its 20 sports represented in postseason play, finishing with the seventh ranked football team in the nation. A total of 12 sports were nationally ranked and four conference titles were won with three coaches receiving coach of the year honors. Five of the school's 20 programs were ranked in the top 11 in the nation.
I'm not sure how that translates to an NGL franchise but let's assume Richardson knows how to pick management talent. If you are wondering whether Morrison might move the Panthers training camp now that the contract has expired consider this:
A native of Burlington, N.C., Morrison, 55, attended Wofford, where he lettered four years in basketball and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics. He also obtained a Masters of Education in administration and supervision from the University of North Carolina in 1981 and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina in 2000.
He returned to Wofford in 1985 as the school's first full time Director of Athletics and served in that capacity for 12 years, guiding the Terriers from NAIA to Division II to Division 1-AA and membership in the Southern Conference.
I think Wofford can rest assured the Panthers will continue to camp in Sparkle City. I used to think Hugh Hefner had the greatest job in the world but now I'm thinking Danny boy might have topped 'Ole Hugh. Naaaa. ;)
I think I speak for the rest of my contributors and readers that we wish Mr. Morrison mucho success leading our beloved franchise.
Go Panthers!

This quick of a move to fill this position certainly hints that this has been in the works for some time. I don’t get the feeling that Mr. Richardson picked up the phone yesterday and made the call on this. Further reading on this link at the Panthers site makes it seem as if he will basicially be filling both jobs that Mark and jon were doing.
Agreed
A move at that level is handled very carefully and quietly until the time is right. Unless the boys where unhappy and quit then yeah, it had to have been planned.
Well apparently Mr. Richardson did just pick up the phone yesterday and offer the job. I guess the issues with Jon and Mark arguing over the future of the franchise just came to a head over the weekend. It’s Mr. Richardson’s team and what he says goes!
A little shocked
but yeah, I guess so.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned
But why exactly did they leave? I haven’t seen it anywhere. If it hasn’t been said, then what are some possible reasons? What are people here speculating?
Sibling rivalry
These guys are 50 & 49 years old and couldn’t agree on how the franchise should be run. So daddy stepped in and removed them both.

Hmm.
Well, guess the Richardson sons are having a time out.

atleast the panthers stay in the carolinas for now
i just couldnt take it if we became a relocated team like to a city called “los angeles”
That wont happen
We’re selling out games, that’s all that matters. It’s the teams like Buffalo (miniscule market), Jacksonville (can’t sell out) and San Diego (can’t sell out) who should be worried about relocation.
