Wednesday Panthers practice Update
The Carolina Panthers practiced Wednesday with embattled quarterback Jake Delhomme taking the reps with the 1st offensive and backups Jay Feely and Matt Moore working with the second team, apparently John Fox is choosing not to disclose which QB will be Jake's bacukup and who will be the emergency 3rd stringer. Panthers held out of practice included Safety Chris Harris and Sherrod Martin. Running back Jonathan Stewartwas held out as a slight precaution as was DT Nick Hayden with a toe injury.
Limited in practice were Everette Brown with an ankle Jeff Otah with a shoulder and Charles Johnson with a knee.

Injuries
What ever happened to players like Dick Butkis. Mike Ditkis, Sam Mills, Reggie White and so on. It seems now days if you twist an ankle or get a stubbed toe or hang nail you get held out of practice and are day to day. I know big money says alot but come on be a man and play with a little pain. Sorry I’m not sure about the spelling of the first two last names.
Dick Butkus
Filed a lawsuit against the Bears for improperly handling his knee injury. He now can’t stand or jump for an extended period of time and may eventually need an articifial knee.
Nowadays I think they know more about injuries and by handling these injuries better (i.e. sitting out practices, treatment) we can allow players to put forth full effort when it counts during games and also trying the best we can to improve their quality of life after football.
Furthermore,
how much bitching would happen from the fanbase if a star player got injured because you didn’t hold them out?
Damned if you do, damned if you dont.
There are also NFL precautions regarding injuries (see the NY debacle with Favre) specifically related to the players union. I don’t think they want to see any more Joe Namaths who it takes him 45 mins to get out of bed in the morning.

Well, atleast if they get injured during a drill they are out there doing something & not being paid millions to stand around & just be held out for precautionary reasons. Its a contact sport, stop with all the babying & man up. Last, I cannot believe Moore is not the # 2 QB going in, well first I cannot believe Delhomme is starting but not to have Moore whos been here for 2 years & should know the system now as the # 2 is insane. If he hasnt grasped the playbook by now & he keeps getting degraded to the # 3, why is he still on the team? Says something about the Panthers & theyre evaluation of talent.

Why do you try to change every single topic into a post about how much Delhomme sucks?
It’s been played and it’s getting a little old.

QB
Cut Jake use the widcat use Smith because this is the only way we can get him th bal. What a waste of money there was reason he was a backup with SAINTS long seaon arain.
I'll try and translate
“Jake Delhomme is a subpar quarterback. I believe it is of the utmost importance that the Panthers do not give away another game and therefore should implement the Wildcat offense, with Steve Smith taking snaps. I believe this will be effective and get the ball into the hands of our best playmaker. We have wasted alot of money on Jake Delhomme and due to his past as an unknown quarterback with a division rival, we should have known he was garbage from the start. This is going to be a long season.”
Your welcome.
thank you
having a bit of trouble there

Last I saw,
the Wildcat with Smith wasn’t too effective. Smith works best in space, quick bubble screens or a cross over the middle in zone coverage.

I doubt they'll use the wilcat very often
One of the two plays they used it, Jake was out wide right, and took a pretty good shot to the head from the CB. If they do use it, he better be in the slot, or in motion, to protect himself.
Matter of fact, what about a wildcat formation where he (Jake) lines up wide, goes in motion, and gets the toss from the RB taking the snap, then fires downfield to a receiver freed up by the LB going up for the initial runner (modified fleaflicker?)
I believe that play is called a ‘pahokee’…. the Cardinals used it once or twice last year with Boldin taking the snap.
I don’t know if we have anyone who could throw well enough to Jake.
