Eagles vs. Panthers Game Day Open Thread
Philadelphia Eagles at Carolina Panthers, Sep 13, 2009 1:00 PM EDT
If you are reading this Panthers fans we are inside one hour until kick-off of the 2009 season. Mini-camp, OT's and training camp are history. The preseason tune up is over. The bumps and bruises are being dressed and the Panthers are getting pumped! On the surface the Panthers are facing an NFC contender who brings a world of experience on both sides of the ball. The line is Eagles -2 and I'm thinking the Panthers +2 is a sure bet. I'd take the 'over' as well whatever it is. Hey, I finally found someone outside Charlotte who is bullish on the Panthers over the Eagles:
It must just be the uninformed dolts in the national media who haven’t bothered to look at what’s going on with the Eagles this year. All they see is that Andy Reid made the playoffs last year and they love kissing his big fat ass. I, on the other hand, have been watching the horror show unfolding this entire off-season up until the eve of the start of the regular season. The Eagles have been affected by death, injuries, free agent defections, bad personnel choices, stupidity and arrogance. I’m just waiting for the locusts. I don’t think the Eagles will beat the Panthers in week 1.
The Panthers went 8-0 in the regular season last year and will surely be ready the shake the taste of the 0-4 preseason off. The Panthers have to avoid turnovers that keep the Eagles hopes up conjuring up a road win. Okay, enough talk....
This is now and Open Thread!
Go Panthers!!

help me get ready
So I still don’t know who is the starting DE opposite Peppers. Whoever he is, he will face Justice in Justice’s first ever start at RT. I like that. We really should bring some blitzes at him. Also, is Moore officially the #3 receiver? Who is officially the nickelback? I’m so confused. All I know is D-Will will have his best season ever this year, starting in less than an hour.

They had actually talked about moving Pep over to LE.
Moore is the #3 WR. Wilson is the third corner off the bench, but Marshall will actually be the inside CB in the nickel. Oh, and here’s the official depth chart.

Yes.
Hadn’t seen that. They apparently had to change the lineup with Harris not starting. Martin’s S reps are necessary if Harris can’t go as well as they hope.

I was thinking about something earlier.
We all know about the Seymour trade between the Raiders and the Patriots earlier right? They traded a 1st rounder in order to get a strong DT.
Only, he’s on his contract year and there have been no talks of an extension. What would you guys say if Seymour worked out the last bit of his contract, and then rejoined the Pats?

That's just what I remember after all.
I would put it past the Pats, though proving that it was tampering would be tough to prove. They could just argue that they were telling him the reasons why he was traded and trying to calm him down.

Excuse me if Im out of line here being a noob, but OMG the Panther offensive coaching staff is having a terrible game. With the exception of the 1st drive The Panthers offensive coaches are putting the team in terrible positions by attacking the Eagles strengths and not exploilting the weaknesses. We should have committed to the run and set up play action, run screens to take advantage of the Eagles aggressiveness. Turnovers and the non-call on the punt return have us in hole but talent wise we match up with the Eagles. The good news is its a 4 quarter game and a 16 game season and we can come back.
Lets go Panthers! Lets man up and get after them in the 2nd half!!!

We are starting where we left off last year. The line is having a hard time picking up all the rushers and jake is sloppy on his delivery. it's jake's fault
somehow i’m going to blame jake for the way the panthers bring their hands him to throw a blow with the shoulder, don’t wrap up, and miss tackles. richard marshall’s garbage play is one of many tonight. where is the heart and the technique. did the defense just give up already.

This.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

Seriously
we’re not losing this game because of the defense.

We're losing this game because this TEAM is getting outperformed.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

outperformed is an understatement
jake has been getting hit all day, the RBs are getting hit in the backfield, the receivers are having trouble getting open, the defense is trying the new no-hands tackling technique that only works in high school. at least matt moore is in the game now.

Oh, and the punt return unit has been awful.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.
by MichaelProcton on Sep 13, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Even if that was a good idea
we couldn’t afford to pay him.
by MrEd12345 on Sep 13, 2009 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, we should DEFINITELY snap up a guy who wasn't good enough to beat out JaMarcus Russell.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

I think it was
more that they are committed to Russell and always wanted him to back him up.
by LittleKing on Sep 13, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oh, so they deliberately went with an inferior player.
That makes sense, I guess.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

Jeff Garcia<JaMarcus Russell.
That is pitiful.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

I support jake this offseason
but come on. Okay, so I know we are now desperate, but still.

and earlier
they referred to D williams as D hall.

Yes.
It’s not an accident that his winning percentage is 25 points higher
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

Intentionally knocking the ball out of bounds is a penalty. Oh well.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

I know that I am on Jake’s case alot today but this is the way he has played long term. I do believe McCown or Moore could at least get out of the pocket and not give them a easy target. Also the defense is asleep today. I know Fox has had a good run here but he is not building the team up to compete in the NFL.
by Cwilly1 on Sep 13, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Is this really "the way he has played?"
He has a QB rating of 85+ for his career. He’s at 17 today. I’m not a doctor, but those seem different to me.
DeAngelo Williams CANNOT be tackled.

WOW!
A fox first. they pulled delhomme
by LittleKing on Sep 13, 2009 3:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I can't believe he pulled him
Frye is honestly gotta be one of the top 10 3rd Stringers in all of the NFL right now--colbyb

Maybe they're thinking
he can pull a McNabb ’08
