Nate Salley Placed on IR
The Carolina Panthers made their last roster cut before the deadline today by placing Nate Salley on injured reserve. That means he's gone for the season, but they get to keep him around for next year to compete again for a shot at making the roster. Salley tweaked his knee and he sat out multiple practices recently. I suspected he'd be a roster cut even if healthy, but this gets us to 75 players before the Pittsburgh game without having to send anyone home who's still hale and hearty.

DT Lonnie Harvey cut too...
…which was the other transaction that just use down to 75 players.
As for Salley, we also get to keep his $1.01 million salary on the books. Salley only has a one year deal and would ordinarily be a free agent, but 2010 is an uncapped year, so it looks like he’s only a RFA and we retain control over him. If we want him. Which we might not, if we find a better solution at safety (Sherrod Martin?).

Harvey out & Salley on IR wtf ??
Hated to see Harvey go but he was simply to slow out of his stance against O-linemen. As for Salley I am surprised they could not reach an injury settlement with him and just flat-out release him. Man that sucks, the guy is keeping 1.01 million that we could use to get someone else. However with all the crazy stuff happening today with acquiring a new (DT), Richardson brothers leaving the organization, and lastly having to get down to 75 player limit by 4pm EDT; their was just not enough hrs in the day. Anybody know the draft choice we gave up ???? Remember we already gave up our 7th I believe b/c JJ Jansen is going to make our roster as a long snapper, so that pick goes to green bay. Man we are trading picks and dumping them like they are garbage. Okay maybe not garbage but good grief we have depth at DE so trading one of those guys would make since to acquire our next DT; however I believe this will be our only trade now. We will add another veteran on or after the Sept 5th cutdown date. An by trading someone I mean Charles Johnson/Hilee Taylor or Tyler Brayton.
Go Panthers

Are you sure?
I haven’t seen anything about Salley being released. He was placed on injured reserve. Darin Gantt mentioned they’ll likely continue to pursue an injury settlement with him (so maybe they can release him?)…primarly to free up part of his $1.01 million salary.
As for the draft choice we gave up for Louis Leonard, it was undisclosed…but we do know it’s a conditional pick. That probably means we have to keep him on the roster for it to stick. And that gives us time to evaluate him and cut him if we think we can still bring in someone better.

We got Jansen for...
… a (conditional) 7th round pick… in 2011.

Has Nate Salley ever done anything for the Panthers?
Release him already! He’s always either unproductive or injured! I know they can’t do it now, but they should have when they could.
