Plaxico Burress pleads guilty in his weapons possession case and will serve 2 years in prison. - ESPN
He may end up serving 18-20 months, but even so, he would be 34 before the next season in which he could play. That does not include a possible suspension from Goodell. When considering the time away from elite training and his age, it sounds like his career is finished. - WP

Wow...seems excessive for some reason
I’m not disagreeing with the verdict but wow…18 months min for carrying a gun into a nightclub and shooting yourself.

The min is actually 3 1/2 years!
Plaxico plead guilty and made a deal so the DA’s office dropped it to 2 years.
NY don’t mess around with gun charges. I would have thought he would have had someone in his posse look into the law before leaving the house with it.
Pleading guilty was the smartest decision Plaxico has made in a long time.

Still Wow
he basically got the same punishment as Vick and Vick ran/funded a dogfighting ring. still a crimes a crime. unfortunate for him with his career probably over considering he was on a team that can easily make a super bowl run this year and the next couple years.
Since when is it a crime to be a dumbass?
I think this is a ridiculous sentence. He should have been laughed at, not tried.
I guess we have to remember its New York
they are a little more sensitive about people carrying unregistered, concealed weapons up there…the mob, gang bangers, etc…they have issues we don’t see as much in the South. And just as with Vick it was high profile meaning little leniency. and it was hard for him to deny it, he had a bullet wound and mucho witnesses. Definitely a dumbass move though. One thing I will never understand is if you think you need a gun to go somewhere then why go?

Exactly! Especially in this society and with the type of monetary influence he had. He could have gone places that have very strict security as well as hire his own legal protection.

That's it. Lights out.
Plaxico’s career is done. When he comes out he’ll be 34 and have a long history of bad behavior. Game over man game over.
Final whistle.

Shoot (pun intended) I'd take him in Carolina
What long history are you talking about? He’s been contemptible to team ownership to a degree but I don’t recall previous trouble with the law. I guess there is the mention of previous weapons charges but certainly he has learned his lesson on that. Is it really that hard to register a gun? Not!

I agree, harsh, was the DA Jack McCoy or something?
But still it’s understandable, it’s a crime and the DA wanted to send a message, bringing an unlicensed gun into a nightclub is a felony and will not be tolerated. How hard is it to license anyway?
difficulty
i’m not sure how difficult it is to get your license, or to at least put your gun on safe in the club so you don’t shoot yourself, but i figure, if your name is plaxico burress and you caught the game winning TD in the Superbowl, it should be easy to get a license in new york, but not boston.
There are plenty of hoops to go through to carry a concealed weapon legally.
Classes, tests and paper work.
