just fyi about UFL (United Football League)
I figure I'mnot the only one who wants more football than regular season NFL games, so I'm posting this little bit from CNNSI T&R
The United Football League will kick off in October with teams in New York, San Francisco, Orlando and Las Vegas. The maximum salary will approach the minimum $620,000 a four-year NFL veteran gets, with some players making as little as $35,000, plus incentive bonuses. While such stars as Marvin Harrison and Derrick Brooks, both currently unsigned by NFL clubs, could wind up in the UFL -- so might Michael Vick, something commissioner Michael Huyghue is considering -- most of the players won't register highly on the recognition scale.

I hope it works out and there is a high quality of play. I have always thought there is no such thing as too much football. I checked out the rosters on wikipedia, those qb’s are in for a hell of a season without a full compliment of offensive linemen.

I doubt any former star who has issues other than rehabing their image will end up there.
Check out the results from their draft. Those are the guys who actually went to the league and expressed playing. A few names you might recognize (Adam Archuleta, Chris Perry, Brooks Bollinger, Rien Long, Rob Petitti, Anthony Schlegel, Nate Jackson, David Kircus, Cecil Sapp, Brian Johnson, Shannon Woods, former Panthers LaBrandon Toefield, Keith Hinrich, and Dominique Thompson), but mostly scrubs you’ve never heard of. Unless the NFL develops an affiliated minor league such that NFL teams have an incentive to put money into player development on the lower levels, I don’t ever see one of these leagues really making it big.

They are certainly off to a better start than the XFL
At least this will still be football, and it would not be unusual to think that it becomes a minor leagues of sort for the NFL (now that NFL Europe is defunct)
I doubt you find guys on the edge of retiring playing there (especially if they are to retire as future hall of famers) such as Marvin Harrison and Derrick Brooks. But why not give the practice squad guys, and the undrafted free agents a place to go and hone their skills in a normal football field of play (unlike arena and the CFL)

imo
In my opinion, I’m really only concerned with having a litte more football to watch. Many of these guys will have skillsets comparable to NFL players, but they will be lacking in something else. For example, if I could catch as well as Jerry Rice, maybe I could play in a bootleg Thursday football league, but my measurables (5’9, no vertical jump, don’t wanna run the 40, hate playing in the cold) have kept me out of the NFL so far.

Haha...
Good point. I do think there will be those who just turn it on and watch because it’s the closest thing we’ve seen to real football in a while. If ESPN can get 2,000,000 people to watch the International Bowl between UConn and Buffalo, there’s probably a market.

Lets see if they make it through their first season

JP Losman will be starting for the Las Vegas Team
It appears Losman has given up on finding NFL work and will go play in the UFL.

Ha...
Wasn’t he just suggested as an upgrade over Delhomme?

He was suggested as a possible back up for Delhomme. A better backup than MC and Moore.
I think some NFL teams are crazy not to sign the guy… especially SanFran and the Seahawks.

But...
Do you think they’re less aware of their QB troubles than you? He got interest from several teams this offseason, yet nobody signed him. One would think NFL teams are doing their homework.

Your right… I know less then the team do. However- so do you.

ask a Buffalo fan(the breed of fan that can do more then just rag on a guy… i know those are hard to find coming from Buffalo, but still…) about Losman and they will tell you that they wished it would have worked out because the guy is extremely talented and wants nothing more then to win- but just couldnt get it together during the times when they had a shotty OL and weak receivers.

Beauty of the UFL
Its only a 6 game season, he may be using it as a chance to play some football and hopefully catch on with a team desperate for a QB as the NFL season wears on.

But what of Trent Edwards?
I certainly wouldn’t say he’s going to ever be a top 10 QB, but he certainly looked better faster while younger than Losman did, with the vast majority of the personnel the same.

Edwards is one of the main reasons Losman is out in Buffalo…
To say that “vast majority of the personnel” is the same is completely off. The Bills had very poor drafts from 200-2004, and are just now getting out of that. They have been VERY injury prone, and quite young too. The team now is a completely different team then it was when Loseman was given his chances- or thrown into the Lions Den, as I would say.

of course I ment 2000-2004, and not 200!! Thay havent been drafting bad for THAT long!! haha

But they were both given the same chances in the last two years...

yeah… cause player injuries dont affect the way that the rest of the team plays at all, right?!
Our run game and D always goes to crap when Delhomme goes out…
JP started in two games last year. Threw for 61% of 104 attempts. Fumbled EIGHT TIMES and lost four of those….
You wanna tell me they had a quality line last year? or that the team wasnt bruised by the lose of Edwards?
