Is Carolina the Perfect Fit for Michael Vick?
Alright before everyone shoots this down take a quick second to ponder this. Jake Delhomme is our guy and should be, but he has made some mistakes. Does anyone remember the year we brought in David Carr some fan's thought he was going to take Jake's job(not me got my brother on that one)granted David was a bust what I'm getting to is this Jake had competion and in the three game's he played before he got hurt Jake had 8 TD's Vs 1 INT tied Tony Romo for best in football at the time. Here is another idea we ran wildcat last year Michael Vick could come in then and I belive with our O-line,Delo or J-stew,and Vick we would have the best wildcat roster on the planet earth.I also belive Vick wants to play and he knows he won't start off as a QB.Knowing that, We have A wideout that is one of, if not the best in the league we have special plays just for him you all should know who I mean(steve smith for the aliens reading the article)Vick would be a similar wideout running similar play's I don't know what you might think when reading this, but I would love to have Vick as one of Jake's targets. We played Vick twice a year and i don't know how many hardcore Panther fan's that are reading this, but Vick used to shred us.Do you all remember the diving play that got him in the endzone awesome thats all need be said.Fox had to design defensive plays to try and counter Vicks plays the whole league did for goodness sake and we can gurauteed getting him with a 7 rounder.
Okay that was the pro's of Vick good ideas, but how about the con's.Has he really changed doe's he belive dogfighting is terrible and should not be allowed?Doe's he want to change the heart's of others? Will he be protested to the extend to where he is distracting the team's focus? Will he be willing to play other prositions other than QB?What will he do went his bills are payed of and back in the lime life without debt? Can he still run Vick fast? Can his teammate's trust him? There are alot of questions when it comes to Vick the trick is finding a happy medium. For me he is worth it I belive he can do alot for the team might even change Julius Peppers feeling toward the team.I saved this for last the number one reason I belive Vick fits in Carolina comes from a business prospective how many fans would the Panthers pick up from the falcons?Would it feel like a home game in ATL?How many jerseys would carolina sell? Our economy state is not the best in the league with Vick I belive it gets better.Championship!!!!!!!!

Vick is a scumbag...
And if he was a mediocre player before he sat out for 2+ years, he won’t be any better after.

Sorry, square peg in a round hole
I know this won’t be a popular opinion, but I think once a guy has served his debt to society through prison time he should be given the chance to resume his life. I think Vick should be given a chance since he could now provide a positive influence against dog-fighting. I bet at one NFL team gives him a chance in TC.

Agreed
I’ve always been a Vick fan (regardless of my station as a hardcore Panthers fan). He’s made some incredible plays time and time again. Teams around the league had to alter their defense and commit a DB as a ‘spy’ just for him. Is he a good QB? No. But he’s one hell of an athlete. I agree with Jaxon’s opinion that once a person has served their time, they deserve a chance to return to their normal life. If he were a mason, no one would object to him laying bricks again. But because his life afforded him time in the spotlight, there are many who never want him in the NFL again. I think that’s incredibly short-sighted, but that’s neither here nor there.
That being said, Carolina is no place for him. We just don’t have the spots to give up for him. Not to mention, I think the ‘wildcat’ fad will still continue to be used in limited amounts (with the exception of perhaps, Miami…since they drafted Pat White). Also, as Jaxon mentioned the powers that be here in Carolina don’t really put a lot of effort into troublesome players that would have a very low usefulness. They make exceptions for Smitty’s outbursts—because, well, he’s an amazing receiver.
As a matter of opinion (bleeding-hearts should stop reading now) I wish people would get off the “Bash the dog-killer Vick” bandwagon. He made some mistakes (which can be argued that his actions were culturally biased) but he’s paid his dues. PETA is going to make his life miserable…probably forever. Isn’t that enough for the haters? Probably not :)

No one would object to him laying bricks, sure...
But if that was his profession, he’d have a much harder time getting one of those jobs as a convicted felon than Vick will to get a contract offer.
Also, the Dolphins continue to maintain that White will be developed as a legit QB.
Finally, it would be hard to say that there was any sort of instigator to prompt Vick’s actions. He did them willfully of his own accord. Smitty crossed the line into physicality, but he was goaded into it by both Lucas and (moreso) Bright before him.

Good points
Vick brought it on himself and the cultural argument is complete BS in my book. He knew what he was doing was illegal and if he didn’t all he had to do was ask his lawyer. I certainly don’t condone what Vick did but there are people in this country who paid a lower price for killing a person…I’ll stop there…I don’t want to violate my own rules on talking politics which this conversation can degenerate too. I might have to add a third taboo topic: no talking politics, religion or Michael Vick!

He did his time… forgive and forget. I hate what he did, but I don’t think it is worse than crimes on other humans that players constantly get away with. He should be allowed to play again!
Just not in Carolina.

NEVER WAS A VICK FAN
Vick is an incredible athlete, he beat teams with his legs(Panthers included) on the regular. But to me, something was always missing. Maybe I just don’t trust a quarterback who seems incapable of making plays standing in the pocket… How long will this wildcat fad last before defenses start shutting it down anyway? I can’t see signing a guy just run a few trick plays.

I have to admit
having Vick on the team does sound interesting, but this whole debate is irrelevant, Furney will never go for it.

Well, I think it’s absolutely deplorable what he did to dogs and I think he should only get back in the league after he’s started doing some stuff with the humane society and what not. But he’s served his debt, and anyone saying he should be banned for life from football is just ridiculous…I believe there’s a certain Baltimore Raven LB that’s still in the league despite allegedly doing much worse. I never thought Vick was a good QB to begin with, his passing numbers were always pretty bad, and countless talented wide receivers struggled with him as their QB. He was too unorthodox for their passing game to be consistent and he could only win games with his feet. He was just good enough to get a team into the playoffs (as long as they had a good running game, which they always did) but he would never have been able to win a Super Bowl. I will say that he would be absolutely awesome in a wildcat formation, (assuming the wildcat still works despite the Ravens being able to destroy it and also assuming Vick hasn’ t lost a step since prison). The wildcat in itself is confusing for defenses and it worked quite well when we used it, and that was when it was pretty obvious we were going to run no matter what. But can you imagine what it would be like with a player like Vick in the back field who could run like any great RB and pass like a QB as well? Pretty lethal I would bet.

"Allegedly" is the key part.
Vick’s transgressions are no longer allegations. He went to trial (as Lewis had to), and was convicted by a jury of his peers (Lewis was not.)
Oh, and Vick never passed like a QB.

Great arm and athelete
but he never had the Wunderlic for the QB position IMO. Good points in the comparison to Lewis.

OJ Simpson proved that our legal system doesn’t always serve out justice. (In reference to Lewis) Who, unlike OJ, has turned his life around after getting away with it.

Personally, I'm not willing to convict OJ...
Law enforcement had their shot, and they couldn’t convict him despite an “abundance” of “evidence.” I’m planning on being a lawyer, and there’s a reason the law is set up the way it is. Do some of the guilty slip through the cracks? Perhaps, but I’d go so far as to say it’s worth it to make sure everyone has a fair shot at an acquittal rather than simply having the book thrown at them because of appearances or hearsay.

I think we have the best legal system in the world and I’m not trying to persecute it. All I was trying to say is that although some people are found innocent, it doesn’t mean that they are innocent.

Carolina isn't a fit for Vick...
…much less a “perfect” fit for him.
That said, Vick has served his time. He’s still super-talented and would be an asset to a number of teams who would rather have him than their current QB. As long as he’s a model citizen, Goodell should reinstate him. He’ll probably land somewhere, but wherever he goes, it will be a media circus big-time. So whoever pulls the trigger on acquiring him had better be prepared for that.
My two-cents,

as far as scoring "Vick bandwagon fans"
I highly doubt that any Falcon’s fans are going to be willing to convert for Michael Vick. He single handedly started the chain reaction that made the Falcon’s franchise implode from ‘06-’07. Matt Ryan and a new coaching staff have completely revamped that franchise and there aren’t many Falcon’s fans who aren’t happy that Vick is no longer what makes the Falcon’s franchise.
I do agree that Vick can fit in wherever he goes and will be an excellent fit for whatever team takes a chance on him.
The guy is a great football player and he’ll be able to serve a purpose for whoever decides to utilize his unique combination of talents. The media bull will all simmer down after the guys starts taking over highlight reels again and he is one playoff appearance away from being one of the “darned greatest turnaround stories” in the NFL.

Bobby Petrino is the reason....
Atlanta imploded IMO. The locker room was just toxic. Vick on the Panthers sounds interesting because if we signed him it would either be to take over for Delhomme eventually, or to run trick plays, which means Fox isn’t in charge of the O. Also because our D had so much trouble with Vick, it stands to reason we could turn the tables on other teams.

Atlanta imploded because we choose Vick over Tomlinson...

Now that he’s been cut by the Falcons, I think we should grab Vick if we get the chance. We have nothing to lose by adding more depth to a position, and Vick can play different positions. People question his accuracy as a quarterback, but there’s no doubt that he’s an athlete. I’m sure he’s rusty right now and that there’s no guarantee that he’ll be able to run like he did, but if his choices are either NFL or some other football league, I’m sure he wont be asking for much to come in and play. So if no other teams are interested in him, why not pick him up? I admit that I supported Vick even after the dog fighting incident, but I’m sure people will forget the past once he performs well.

Vick is immediate game changer
Here are a few thoughts.
Already been said and almost everyone agrees that everyone deserves a 2nd chance.
1. (MP) Only 5 or 6 QBs in the league that are not mediocre by someones standards.
2. A wildcat back that has been a QB in the NFL and can outrun anyone. Scary!
3. A 3rd receiver " " " " " " WOW!
4. Delhomme, Williams, Stewart, Smith, Moose, Vick, O-Line. Teams could not match up
5. There would be a ton of media scrutiny that would demand a high character team, coaching staff, and front office. Sounds PURRFECT to me!
Oh yeah, the brick layer comment doesn’t hold water. Tons of felons work in much better situations. That is not upper crust employment.
by Cole Train on Jun 13, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Really?
Vick will be third on the WR depth chart without having ever played the position before?
Also, it’s clear to me you don’t have a felony on your record or know anybody who does. It’s nearly impossible to get a job (or even go to school) after you get involved with that.
Remember, kids...don't ever let facts get in the way of your argument.
by MichaelProcton on Jun 13, 2009 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really
Are you saying you would rather have Jarret or Carter or Goodson over Vick. I think he has a better understanding of what it takes to be a pro receiver than any of those guys. His presence along the line scrimmage alone would be more effective than the numbers from our 3rd receiver. I know it is fantasy but a desperate Vick would probably play any position a coach ask.
In fact, nearly every brickmason or framer I know has a felony or is an illegal alien. That is why they lay brick. Enough of that though.
by Cole Train on Jun 13, 2009 10:05 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
There's a reply button for a reason, bro.
And yes, I’d rather have a guy who’s played receiver for the last two years rather than a guy who’s been in prison for the last two years as our #3 wideout..
Remember, kids...don't ever let facts get in the way of your argument.

I think a team will give Vick a chance at some point
but I just don’t see it happening in Carolina. We could argue a lot of issues to that affect but it just is not how the Panthers operate. No convicted felons will be brought in. On the other hand I would love to see a team like the Raiders bring him in
