Mike Mckenzie a good option for Carolina
Richard Marshall is still not ready to play opposite to Chris Gamble. I like the guy and i do believe he is useful as a starter as the nickel back but he will get burnt all season against second WRs. I know we drafted Sherrod Martin and Captain Munnerlyn but these guys are rookies and i don't think we should chance them at starter quite yet. Mike Mckenzie is a vet and was released by the Saints, I'm sure he would love to play against the team that "doesn't need him anymore". Having him on the roster would make our defense great. We could play man and force more pressure on the QB with LB blitzes from Thomas Davis.

I do not agree. I believe that McKenzie has lost a step due to age and injuries.
I also think that Marshall is a good CB who had a bad season in 08. I feel comfortable with him as a starter and think that he has been busting his tail this off-season to improve to be ready for the Eagles September 13.

I made a comment in the Marvin Harrison thread and I think I will just cut and paste it here…
“Along with the 3-4 defense I would enjoy any talk of the Panther signing "X" free agent immediately after that person has been cut from another team to cease and desist as well.”
I am also not sure the coaching staff would start playing man defense and change the overall scheme of the defense more simply because we signed a 33 year old cornerback to the roster. I believe the Panthers usually keep 5 CB’s on the roster and signing Grandpa McKenzie would mean they would have to release two of the following: CJ Wilson, Dante Wesley, Captain Munnerlyn for one year of average production from a player who could most likely be more expensive than the player the Panthers would release.

Maybe & I will say that know and leave it at that. We need to get our top picks signed and w/ the rumor of Panthers trying to get Peppers signed long term I seriously doubt we pick up anyone until we are at-least half way through training camp, preseason games, and more than likely after all that and our roster cut-down to 53 players.
McKenzie could be a good fall back plan, but just not a good idea right now.

Maybe a few years ago...
But as others have noted, he’s been a wreck with injuries lately, and he was a part of some pretty bad Saints secondaries before that. Truth be told, there are other vets out there who are no less injury-prone who have been better more recently, and there will probably be quite a few more that come down the pipes after cuts. I wouldn’t be upset if we signed him, but I wouldn’t want him handed a job, either. Marshall, Martin, and Wilson all deserve a shot at their slated roles.

I'd stick with Marshall at this point
Besides the money thing, I’m not convinced McKenzie offers a season-long upgrade at the position. Lets give Marshall a shot.

No Thanks
Along with the reasons mentioned above, I mean the SAINTS released him. The same Saints with the notoriously bad secondary.
