Madden rankings are out!
The Panthers lead at the top of the NFC South with a team overall of 83. Notable improvements include Deangelo Williams who flew up to a 94 overall. Steve Smith and Julius Peppers both have a 97 overall.
These are all early ratings and subject to change as the game nears release, but I was going to be very upset if they released Williams with a pathetic 85 after his brilliant season.

Team overall of 83??? Didn’t we win the NFC South this past year? Perhaps they just grade teams differently now in Madden, but 83 seems a little pathetic to me.

I agree
What is this rating in comparison to other teams? What is the link? I would like to take a look.

They are revamping the system...
Said they wanted to give more of a gap between the best players and the worst. For instance, our 3-5 WRs are between 55 and 63.

Good to see Williams get the respect he deserves

If you'd like to see the link, just click on it. It's right up there when you click the article head.
When you click the text “Madden Rankings are out.” It will take you directly to it.
I’ll admit though, this is a pretty annoying article. Besides our stars, they rank a good bit of our backups pretty low. Meanwhile the Giants have 6 D-Linemen with 80+ ratings.
The instant I turn on franchise mode, I’m going to go trade crazy. Goodbye first/2nd round picks. Hello D-line help!

How are we leading the division at 83?
I haven’t played Madden in a couple years but last I checked, 83 isn’t very good. They must have the whole division rated pretty low which is ridiculous if you just look at last year. We rivaled the NFC East. It’s too bad Madden sucks now, I keep hoping for it to change but I doubt it will. It’s gotten too arcady and will only continue to do so with ESPN showing competitive Madden shows on tv. NCAA football is by far a better video game, and this is coming from someone who isn’t even a big fan of college football.

I agree.
They’re being much much stricter with the ratings though today. The worst rating last year was like a 79 or something. Now teams are way way waaaaaaaaaaaay low if they suck.

Yeah, I just noticed that. Some rough ratings out there. Broncos are only 70. Yikes.

rivaled the NFC East?
if you are referring to W-L records by the division – our division as a whole won more games than any other division in the NFL.

Hey, I thought our division was better too, but I was trying to be objective. The fact that TB really faded down the stretch hurt our division strength a bit.

as much as I am not a fan of rooting for rival teams
I would like to see the NFC South come out of this next season with a higher W-L record (as a division) than the NFC East… I mean, since we will be facing them all this season and I don’t think there is a division I loathe more than them.

In last years Madden
83 would have been awful. But like MP said, they rescaled the ratings to provide more of a gap between elite players and mediocre ones, for instance Tyler Brayton will no longer dominate a Pro Bowler.

Y’all still play Madden? I haven’t touched this game in eight years, the same rehashed crap every year. They should just have roster updates instead of making you purchase a “new” game every single year.

I got off of Madden in '04...NCAA's been more fun to play since.

Although I think they went a little far this year with the player models (the demo just came out...looks like some kind of robot video game)

Yeah, I switched to the NFL 2k series on Dreamcast
almost a decade ago, and stayed with it on Xbox until Madden’s monopolization in ‘06. Just can’t bring myself to drop the coin on Madden when every iteration of NFL 2kX was better than that year’s Madden. And given their exclusivity, what reason do they have to innovate or make the product better?

Ugh...
2K sucks. Look at what they did with their baseball exclusive. 2K9 is buggy, has awful graphics, and has even worse gameplay.

Yeah, their baseball franchise is beyond awful.
Always has been. Boring is the best way I’ve ever heard it described.
But their football… man, that was the heat!

What exactly is you guys beef with Madden?
I’ve been happy with the improvements they’ve made, I’ve been kind of a noob for a bit though.

- Hated the introduction of the vision cone (although I know you can turn it off)
- Dynasty got more and more tedious every year
- Gameplay felt clunkier
- Graphics got—if this is possible—too sleek for me. Made it look like a CGI movie (which, I guess, could be the point.)

I understand a few of those
My brother hates the vision cone, I lik it, it makes the game more realistic. Playing defense is easier too. : ) I’m assuming by dynasty you mean Franchise, and yeah, it could be seriously improved, but I think they are doing that this year. Gameplay didn’t really seem clunky to me, but I started with 2000 on the 64, then went to 06 on the PS2. Huge difference believe me. That last point is just opinion, one that I don’t share, although you use X-box, I use Play Station which is a huge difference in graphics. But it’s your money, I choose to spend 50 bucks a year, you don’t, you probably use the money you save better than I would, so it all evens out.
