I think...
that the Bucs are now the weakest in the NFC South. Atlanta and New Orleans seem to be very much improved, and the Panthers have made a few as well. I think it will come down to Atlanta and Carolina as to who wins the division.
The Bucs are rebuilding now, and while I don’t follow college football so I don’t know for sure, but it seems most are pretty disappointed with the Freeman pick. If Freeman turns out to be a decent quarterback and their defense pulls it together (much like Carolina’s needs to), they have an outside shot. I still think they’ll finish last in the division this year though. Sorry.

I agree
The biggest thing that will hurt them this year, IMO, is losing the veteran leadership of Derrick Brooks and other guys they cut. At best they seem to be 2 years from a playoff push, but I also thought the same thing about the Falcons last year.

You guys should be happy you got Freeman
If he had stayed at K-State, some were saying he could have been a top ten pick. He has a great arm, great athleticism, and is accurate enough. He struggles with his decision making though, and he might not be a commander in the huddle. But with a great O-line, a decent running game, and a few more receiving threats, Freeman will be ready in 2 years or so. Plenty of time for Carolina to win the Super Bowl. : )

The Bucs will struggle this year
It doesn’t appear they improved their run defense much or their passing game. They are staring at 4th place int he division unless Raheem Morris is a miracle worker. I’m also not impressed with a Jim Bates defense as opposed to facing Monty Kiffin. That and the tougher schedule will spell trouble in TB this season.

Mixed emotions
I don’t necessarily agree with Morris dismissing veteran talent as he did. I think that, unfortunately, make the Bucs weaker as a team. Without the leadership of Brooks on defense and Kiffin on the sideline, there is a good chance things will get ugly. Then again, I could be wrong. I hope so, even though I’m a Carolina fan. I like seeing the NFC South being strong as a whole. The tougher schedule will compound the pain this year, for all of us in the division really.
The silver lining in the dark clouds, though, is Josh Freeman. He won’t be ready for you all this year, and maybe not until the end of next. However, he has a wealth of athleticism and talent. He’s in the raw stages, currently, but I heard a comparison between he and Dante Culpepper. As a fan in the NFC South—I don’t look forward to facing him twice a year when he comes into his own :)
