Peppers is a no show at mandatory practice today...
<!-- TOKEN_1241212620281_TOKEN -->Today the Carolina Panthers started a three day mini-camp. Surprise, surprise a no show for disgruntled defensive end Julius Peppers. Expect him to continue his absence, he still has not signed his one year 16.7 million dollar tender. Since he has not signed his contract he can’t be finned for missing the mandatory practice. I thought for sure that he would have been gone by the draft. It looks like if we were to trade him it would be for picks next year, which could be a good thing seeing how we don’t have a first round pick next year either.

what the heck
is wrong with him man.
he used to be my all time favorite Defensive player but now im not sure anymore
he needs a decision.
either stick with carolina or go somewhere else cuz he’s starting to waste EVERYONE’s time
ok im done ranting now.
Your poll is misleading...
he might be on the field, but to expect to actually “play” is asking too much…
"We're not maxed out, ... The best is still ahead of us."
Bobby Bowden
Good point
That is true… he might be on the field and just not give a damn. Although if he wants to impress other teams for a trade next year he will have to show something.
j pep
why don’t He Sign The Letter Of Intent If He Don’t Want To Play For The Panthers? They’ve Might Have A Better Player In The One They Drafted Than Pep? At Least The Panthers Can Get Him Out Of There System And Maybe Be Better This Year Than Last? He Might Go To Another Team And Be A Bust For That Team And Not Play At All. I Hope The Panthers Win Like They Did Last Year And Get To The Superbowl And Win. Go Panthers
how is this possible?
Seems like Peppers is getting all the benefits of the franchise tag and none of the downside. The franchise tag isn’t something he can decline, is it?!?
Technically, yes
He can choose not to sign the tender and sig out, but then he won’t get paid at all.

I see this rule changing
If/when a new CBA is reached, I have a feeling the owners press this issue; and I can’t imagine the PU going to bat too hard to keep this.
The amount of players this rule impacts is small, but the repercussions to entire franchises are enormous.
While I’m ranting, here is a glimpse into my crystal ball, based on nothing but my instincts:
The next CBA will most benefit veterans and players who are not superstars. Rookie contracts will change, retired veterans will see their medical benefits increase, and I would wager the pieces of the pie (percentages) will stay about the same.
Problems down the road include a decrease in the bidding wars over the naming rights to stadiums, as financial institutions (prime bidders in the sports world) find themselves with tighter budgets
