Peppers Franchised - In Retrospect
Just re-watched this video from NFL.com from right after Carolina slapped the Franchise tag on Pep. All this talk about Peppers having to be traded has been distracting. But these guys might be on to something. The Panthers have a formula to win now. Trading Peppers breaks up that formula.
They seem to agree that the Franchise tags means, like Hurney has been saying, they want Peppers in Carolina. They brought in Ron Meeks to take what should have been a stout defense, and to sure it up. Meeks for sure wants to work with a player of Peppers caliber. And they might be thinking he can help mix things up and convince Pep to stay here for the long haul.

They will still have to pay the $16M
which will make signing needed depth tough. Though I’m sure the Panthers will draft some o-line depth I think there is no way they go into the season with a rookie as Jordan Gross back-up. They have to free up cap space. Maybe that means extending Delhomme and still keeping Peppers. Nice post ST.

Good find Southy
Interesting video. For most of the off-season I have been thinking that the Panthers will hold onto Pep.
The one thing i found interesting was the comment by Jamie Dukes that Pep could get 36.7 million over 2 seasons. That is some serious coin. Could this be the reason for his posturing?

Peppers must GO!!!!!!
With Peppers wanting out of Carolina, and the Panthers needing cap space,Peppers eating up 16.7 million, they need to unload him. If a player does’nt want to be on a team, your not going to get 100% out of that player. If they can’t trade him before or after the draft they need to cut him. Free up cap space, sign a few vets to give them some breathing room to at least sign there draft picks. I mean he is not going to make more money elsewhere, even if he is “maxed out”, for over a million a game he could GET OVER IT!!!!. Peppers must go, but if they keep him he’ll probably have another 07 season with 2 and a half sacks, that’s only 6.4 million a sack.
