The 2009 schedule for the Panthers is neither hard nor easy. I'd say that they struck the team right along down the middle in terms of difficulty.
One of the key dates you can highlight is Week 16. The NFL loved the 28-34 thriller so much that they decided to do it all over again. The New York Giants against the Carolina Panthers. Same week, same stadium, and almost all of the original players back for more action.
We also have a rematch of the Super Bowl in Week 14, a game I'm sure that we will all be watching in eager anticipation. If Tom Brady gets run over at least once by Jon Beason, the game is worth it. Can the Panthers stop Tom Brady to Randy Moss? That will be the key to this game.
Don't forget Week 8. I'm sure that Jake Delhomme would love to erase that playoff debacle with a win, and the league has given him a chance to do that. Call it revenge, call it sweet justice, call it whatever you wish. This game will be a tone setter for the 2nd half of the season. For better or for worse, we'll know just where we are in terms of if we can make it back to the Super Bowl. If we come out of it with a win it will do wonders to help us get back to the post-season.
Alright guys, that's all I leave you guys with today. Don't forget: 11 Days till the NFL Draft. Probably 10 days till Julius Peppers signs his tag.
Just a prediction.

I have to politely disagree Rev
At first blush I do not like this schedule at all. Of course we knew it would be tough, but four of our 5 toughest non-division games are on the road (Cowboys, Patriots, Cardinals, Giants) with only the Eagles coming to Charlotte. Plus the Dallas game is Monday Night. Top it off with the hated early bye in week 4 and it just sucks.
Turning the other cheek the Panthers should play every one of them tough and if they are as good as we think they are 10-6 is still very reasonable and attainable. The positives regarding the schedule are the last 7 alternate between home and away. Also we got 3 prime time games, with two at home on Thu and Sunday nights.

Yep
looks like hell.
Plus the bye is way too early, and all the key games are on the road.
This D better be good…

I don't like the early bye.
At the same time you have to remember that this team shared the best record in the league in the NFC, and they were sharing 2nd for the best record in the NFL. They were going to have a pretty tough schedule, and there was hardly nothing they could do to avoid it.
Still they did a good job of spreading the rough games apart. You have a rough finish with the Patriots, Vikings, and Giants in Week 14-16. Other than that, there isn’t that much to worry about as far as the order of the games go. As I said last season, we have a championship team here that is returning almost all of their starters. If John Fox can pick a good starting DT in the draft, we have the ability to beat any and all of these teams.
Besides, do we really want a schedule where the Panthers are able to beat half their opponents with no problem? No thank you. I’d rather have the Panthers against the Vikings on Monday Night. I’d rather see Eli Manning go down in the 1st Quarter and have David Carr come into the game ready for a licking. I’d rather watch an alternate ending of Super Bowl XXXVIII where the Panthers pull off the upset of the century.
I can’t wait for the start of the season.

Yeah, but by the end of the season
the team will be wearing down given that they are playing good team after good team, week after week.
A later bye would’ve been nice.

Panthers-Vikes...
is on Sunday Night, not Monday. As such, it could get moved to the afternoon.

Welcome to the blog Michael P
If this is the same guy that posts a lot on Charlotte.com your reputation proceeds you. Those guys that comment over there seem to like giving you a hard time but I’ve read everything you’ve posted today and can’t really disagree with any points made. Hopefully your experience will be a little more friendly here. This software platform provides the ability to screen out the idiots!
I would welcome any fanposts you want to put up.

Haha...
indeed it is. Then again, I don’t mind. I’ll continue to speak my mind, regardless if that means I think Foster deserved to keep his job over Williams and I thought Colbert and Carr deserved roster spots last year. Thanks for your efforts over here. I’ve found my typical stomping grounds (Darin’s blog and the CO) pretty slow thus far in the offseason.

A couple of things
Three prime time games? Sweet! Hopefully we’ll still get Ron Pitts to do play-by-play for a game or two; he’s smart and understated. And god help me, I hate Joe Buck’s faux outrage at minor crap.
We’ve got an NFL Network home match-up against the Dolphins, which’ll be fine for me since I have NFLN on DirecTV. It’ll be fine for a bunch of other folks who live here locally. But it’ll be a pain in the ass for all of the Panther fans who live elsewhere and who won’t be able to see it without heading out to a bar.
Also, there’s no point complaining about how many tough away games we’ve got. We knew those before it all started, all we learned today was the order. And I think the order is pretty favorable. We only have two instances of back-to-back away games (weeks 2 & 3, and 8 & 9), otherwise they’re all broken up by home matches. I think that’s very generous. Plus, they’re all east coast except for that Arizona game.
So yeah, I’m actually more excited about the schedule now that I’ve seen it than I was before it was announced.

Good points r3
Thanks for talking me down from the ledge! No west coast games at all is good. Dallas game is central time which is no big deal. Another positive, the Panther had a tendency to play down to the lesser teams (Oakland, Detroit) with only the Cheifs game being a early blow out. No worry about that this year, no down teams at all.
Plus the TO experience comes to Charlotte and at least we get the Eagles and Vikings at home.

Bye week
The bye week does come early, but at least it comes after our MNF game, so we only have one short week (Dolphins, THU).
I’d say that the schedule treated us pretty fairly, and our opponents have very interesting story lines and/or histories with us, which is all I can ever really hope for.
