Checking the Pulse of Panther Nation
You might have noticed we tend to run a good number of fan polls on this site. I periodically revisit the results of some of the polls to see if we can see any trends within the Panther fan base. Let's start with polls related to the coming draft:
- A third of you think the Panthers should draft an offensive lineman in the 3rd round. Another 3rd prefer the 4th round. I'm thinking the wait until the 5th round myself.
- If QB Josh Freeman should be available 57% of respondents think the Panthers should either grab him without thinking or grab him only if a choice DT isn't available. I voted to pass but agree it would be a tough call to make.
- 40 % of Panther fans prefer as the USC's Fili Moala as the DT choice for the #59 selection. Ron Brace follows second at 29%. I would be happy with that pick (which means there is no way he becomes a Panther)
Other select results:
- When it comes to signing FA WR Torry Holt, 61% are either pissed or extremely pissed about the Panthers inability to sign him.
- DE Charles Johnson is the most worthy back-up of getting a promotion, by a 50% to 37% margin over WR Dwayne Jarrett
- When it comes to the defensive scheme and what Panther fans hope he will do with it, a 3rd want the Panthers to play a Cover 2 and a 3rd want to switch back to the 3-4 defense.
- Any finally, when it comes to replacing CB Ken Lucas in the starting line-up 72% of fans are satisfied with Richard Marshall assuming the spot.
Does anyone find any of these results surprising?

ITS GO TIME....
Lets see
I useally dont make any guesses on the draft, you never know what might happen with any team. These days there are so many factors that go into a pick, and even if you cross all the I’s and dot all the T’s, the guy you draft may still wash out for alot of reasons. So I’ll leave that up to you, your guess is as good as mine. Mainly I just hope that they walk away with a good draft that fills in team needs.
Regarding Torry Holt, knew we wouldnt be a contender as far as we didnt have the cash and by the time we would get the cash he would be gone. Just cause he at one time expressed intrest in playing here doesnt mean he would turn down money to play somewhere else.
Its seems you could of given the money to either one, but Johnson was more “visable” than Jarrett backing up the defence, while Jarrett still needs time. Either one or both will have to make a bigger impact this year to stay around.
I belive the 4-3 scheme has faired better in the win loss coloum but i may be wrong
Marshall should and will start, UNLESS we get some one better and I’m sure we arent leaving that stone unturned. Hes got to shine though or we will definitly beef it up next year hopefully.
So there you go, Heres to a competitive team next year!!!

I like Josh Freeman for you guys
But I can understand not wanting to use a high pick in order to get him. What are you guys thinking in the high rounds?

We're definately thinking Defense.
A Defensive tackle or a Defensive End ((If Peppers is traded.)) would work great for me.

All the value at defensive tackle is in the second round
At least, that’s what it feels like to me. Lot of good end prospects out there, though.

Re: Holt
I’m surprised so many people are upset.
It’s not like he’d come here (Carolina, I mean… not Utah) and play for free… he wants money. Which the Panthers don’t have.
Kinda sad… maybe. But pissed/extremely pissed? Overdoing it.

He wants to come here I bet
And would probably come for less than other places. I’m sure he realizes his value isn’t what it was. Playing close to home probably high on his list. So yeah, I think he might wait until after to draft to see what happens

I don't think so
Here’s a Vikings site saying he’s available just this past Saturday.

well then
Thank you for setting me straight. Like I said i “heard” it and wasnt 100% sure, so thank you for the info. By the way any thoughts on Orlando Pace. Hes probally not even an afterthought for us cause our O-Line is set with starters ecspecially at the takle postion. I think he will start for whatever team he goes to, so I dont think we would have a shot at getting him to be backup or rotational guy. Whats yous guys fellings on him?

Probably too expensive
and you are correct, he’s looking to start and will want starter money. Truth is though if a team needs a starting LT so bad they pay Pace then they must be hurting. I bet he remains unsigned until a few games into the season and injuries force a team to sign him
