Final Update: I took CB Alphonso Smith who slid to #59. Honestly this mock took so long I lost interest so I really have nothing left to say about it. Next year I'm just going to stick to the SBN mock.
I'm participating in two mocks drafts this season, the primary one being the official SBN mock you can follow over at our draft site Mocking the Draft. I'm not scheduled to make my pick until around April 10th and I will solicit feedback from my readers for that selection.
The other one is simply a collection of SBN bloggers and other team blogs, a motley crew if you will. We've just completed the first round and I can already tell I'm going to need some help. Here's the first round results:

32. Steelers: — steelerstoday.com FILI MOALA, DT, USC
So my initial reaction is surprise to see the Steelers take Fili Moala over Ziggy Hood, who remains on the board. Other notable selections:
- The Falcons taking LB Sintim, it seems like the biggest reach in the round
- The Browns taking Maualuga at #5, as pass rusher seems to be a bigger need for their 3-4 defense
- The QB we discussed a couple days ago Josh Freeman is still on the board. A lot can happen in the remaining 26 picks till the Panthers draft but he could slide to #59 since the Lions got their QB and the Bucs passed on him.
- I was surprised to see Sanchez fall that far and I bet if it should happen for real the Vikings won’t hesitate to select him
- Can you believe the first RB doesn’t get selected until #23 by the Patriots? As hard as it is for me to praise UGA players Knowshon Moreno is one of the best as eluding the first hit I’ve ever seen. He is going to be a good one and many teams will wonder why they passed on him.
- There’s still a couple good DE’s on the board, GT’s Michael Johnson and Tennessee’s Robert Ayers. Will they continue to slide to #59?
- The stud TE Brandon Pettigrew is still there but won’t be for long. As much as I don’t think the Panthers need a TE I wouldn’t complain a bit if he was selected.
- The more mock drafts I see the more I think the Panthers first pick will be a CB. The combination of a run on DT’s and DE’s in the second round and the slow 40 times at the combine for some top CB prospects will allow a talent like Alphonso Smith, Darius Butler or Victor ‘Macho’ Harris to fall into the Panthers lap. Don’t worry about the 40 times though, the Panthers need a DB with a nose for the ball.
I'll update this list a couple times leading up to my selection so stay tuned.
