Panther Paw Prints Around the Web
I wish I could give you more to read about than Julius Peppers but that is all anyone else is talking about. Call the Doctor! I'm overdosing on peppers!!
Let's start with my one non-Peppers link.
- Mocking the Draft latest mock draft update has the Panthers taking a DT:
Fili Moala, DT, Southern California: A possible switch to cover-2 defense will require a penetrating tackle and Moala would be the perfect fit.
- Yahoo! Sports Jason Cole says if Peppers really wants to leave he should realize he will have to take a pay cut. Yeah right!
- Here's a Patriots fan that says money will not be the problem in signing Peppers.
- Here's another post from the Bill Bilichick radio interview that points out the Patriots coach never stated he wasn't interested in Julius Peppers.
- Darin Gantt says that all the denials of the Patriots interest in Peppers leaves him more convinced he will wear red, white and blue next season.
- Here's one writer (fan?) that says the Panther brass should not hesitate to get rid of Peppers

How is Jason Cole wrong?
If Peppers does get traded, he will likely have to sign an extension first which in turn will be less yearly than the $16+ million he would of gotten had he stayed in Charlotte.

Technically Cole is correct
Any long term deal would require a pay cut for this season but what the players value is the guaranteed money, which he currently has none. He would probably only get $9-10M this season, maybe even less but the contract would probably include $30-40M guaranteed over the probably 5-6 year contract. So though he would make less in 2009 he would be guaranteed big $ for several years to come. If he blows out a knee (knock on wood) in 2009 then he’s screwed because no one would sign him to such a big contract until the knee is deemed healthy, etc…
My “yeah right” comment was referring to Peppers excepting much less than the likes of Haynesworth, Freeney and Ware.
