Haynesworth Would Bring Panthers Both Talent and Controversy
Potential Titans free agent DT Albert Haynesworth would bring a much needed inside presence to the Panthers defensive line if they could somehow bring him here. Should the Panthers decide to go in that direction they would certainly receive a lot of flack from fans who have yet to forget the head-stomping incident.
- Here's a guy who says Haynesworth should be the highest paid defensive player in the league while debunking some myths.
- Guess who else is ‘recruiting' Haynesworth: QB Peyton Manning
- If we don't go after Haynesworth how about trading Peppers for a pick (and more) high enough to get this guy.
- Here's the next Julius Peppers.
- For those of you against signing Haynesworth here's a guy making your case.
So here is the skinny. The Titans agreed last year to not franchise AH two years in a row so if they don;t sign him then he walks. Since his price tag will be around $100M with $35+M guaranteed he will be the highest paid defender. The only question is who is going to pony up the money.
So Panthers fans, do you think Haynesworth will be the unmotivated slacker or even trouble-maker or will he be the chastised Pro Bowler looking to continue rebuilding his image?

I vote
incredibly talented troublemaker/potential slacker. I know the Panthers are not dumb enough to give Julius Peppers type money to this guy.

I would like him to sign
but that price is a bit high for me.

If he was a reclamation project and we could sign him for a medium sized deal then I would be on the Haynesworth train. The negative Haynesworth article pretty much sums up everything I think about him. He is a contract year wonder in my opinion.

The pic
…is Sean Rogers, not Haynesworth.

Wow, it was filed under Haynesworth name.
I kind of wondered about the helmet being orange, looks like a Cleveland helmet

Johnson the next Peppers?
Not sure, but
Johnson’s play as a pro will be determined by how hard he wants to work.
fits Peppers well.
As for a first rounder, I’d love to end up with either Raji or Jeria Perry (DT, Mississippi). Raji is rated higher, but I think Jerry’s a great prospect as well, and he’ll come a bit cheaper (in other words, a pick that is more likely to be traded?).

I was wondering when someone would call me on that one
My GT bias is no secret so of course I think the world of Johnson. I would agree though he’s a second rounder as he will need time to adjust to the NFL. Tremendous athlete though.

the money
I really want Haynesworth. I don’t think he is a contract year wonder, and I think people need to get over the head-stomping of a few years ago, just like you got over Smitty dropping Lucas faster than he can get burned by Fitz. However, I don’t know where the $100 million with $50 million price tag came from, but he isn’t worth all that. I want him on the team, but not for that much. That’s absurd. I mean, he’s good and all, but that’s “Good as Warren Sapp for the length of the contract” money.
I’d rather trade Pep and use that money and those draft picks to tighten up the whole team instead of giving it all to one guy.
I think if the system is right, Johnson and Brayton can be solid starters for us next year. That’s up tp their efforts and the work of Meeks. But I say that to say that if we don’t sign Pep, I doubt we sign someone else for more money than Pep would be offered.

That's where we disagree
I just don’t think Johnson and Brayton can be solid starters in the NFL. Nothing against them but if we go into the season with them as our DE’s, we are going to have no pass rush. I don’t want solid starters, I want at least one DE that can get double digit sacks…especially with how little we tend to blitz. I agree with you that we need an impact DT, but I am not sure Haynesworth is our answer. I also have no clue where those numbers came from. They seem a bit high to me.
I agree with you that we need to tighten up the team with picks we can get from trading Peppers, I just don’t think we should stand pat at DE.

I add a link to where I got the $ figure from
I was estimating the guaranteed money but couldn’t find where I had seen that number so I dropped it down to where Jared Allen was. Allen got $32M guaranteed

Here is another idea!
Let’s get rid of Ken Lucas and go after an upgrade! Nnamdi Asomugha would be a nice addition opposite Chris Gamble. We all witnessed how physical he was against Steve Smith when Carolina faced Oakland this year. He is definitely one of the top shut-down corners in the league. The question is whether or not Al Davis will franchise him. And he will also come with hefty price tag. But if we sign him, we could possibly become one of the top secondaries in the nfl. And do not be surprised to see Atlanta to make a play for his services. As I said regarding Haynesworth, this is another talent that I would hate to face twice a year. What do you guys think?

The Raiders would be nuts not to franchise him
but sure, would love to see him in our secondary. Maybe then we could actually play man up on the WR’s.

The thing is
if we’re going to play zone or something in the secondary, he’d be a total waste of money.
The first thing that has to change (if it hasn’t already) is the defensive gameplanning.

Hanyesworth will be paid a lot of money it's true.
But I would rather see that money with him than Julius Peppers. Besides we can’t fuss at a DT before he has even got to our team. He’s done a great job in Tennasee, we should respect that and bring him to a DL that won’t do ANYTHING unless we get some help next year.
I don’t mind paying him the most money in the league if he does his job.

Damione Lewis, it is time to pick a new number, or possibly another team!
I agree Rev. There are of lot of you guys that are skeptical due to his past antics. But this is not a Pacman Jones or someone who keeps racking up criminal charges. He made a mistake and worked his butt off to restore his creditability. Yes, he may lose his cool during the some games, but that is passion. I can think of another small guy that plays receiver for the Panthers that has that same drive and passion for the game. And I am sure that we are all in agreement that he needs to end his career in Carolina…..Getting back to Haynesworth…… I am not sure if you have seen the man play, but guys like Haynesworth and Rogers are freaks of nature. Yes we can always draft some 335 pounder to fill a hole and assist in making it difficult for teams to run the ball, but these guys are extremely athletic. There are probably only a few big men in the NFL that can possess that speed and athleticism….This team is losing one this year, so why not go after someone that can help fill that void and make our D-Line a force to be reckoned with?
Just a thought.

Passion....
Wish Peppers had some of that.
It’s better to be overly passionate about your job than to be underpassionate. On one side you make plays and knock people down, on the other you make a sack and then go all emo the rest of the game.
What I’m worried about is that Haynesworth might be an Atlanta Falcon by this time next year. Imagine trying to face him twice a year? Lucky we have the offensive line that we do, otherwise we’d have epic problems trying to stop Abraham and Haynesworth at the same time. We all know how Delhomme plays under pressure.
