Ken Lucas Rejects Trade, Kemo takes Pay Cut.
When Panthers CB Ken Lucas wasn't released in the first round of cuts, it left me surprised and wondering why they didn't want to take 2.5 million dollars off the salary cap. We've hated on Ken Lucas all year, and it appeared that he was finally going to get his just due. Then this morning, it was reported that the Lions and the Panthers had agreed to a deal to send Ken Lucas over to the Lions. However, Ken Lucas made it known that he will not and shall not play for the Detroit Lions. Without him working with the Lions for a new contract, they would be forced to work with his current deal which would force the Lions to pay 9.1 million. So the deal fell apart.
And in other news, DT Kemoeatu has agreed to lower his salary for 2009 to save room under the cap. He'll make the same amount of money, but he'll receive 1.5 million as a signing bonus that will be appropriated through 2014. What a good guy. Now if we could only put Haynesworth on the other side of him. That would be awesome.
((Update: Lewis did the same thing. Just go give him his props as well.))

Frank Omiyale signs with the Bears
there goes another back-up of ours.
Geoff Hangartner already has a meeting set up with the Bills.
While Hayneswoth would be great the deal that it would take to get him would
have put the panthers in the poor house for a long time
Wait for the the 2009 Oaklands A's season to start I can not. Herh herh herh.
What would/is Lucas worth on the trade block though?

Probably not a lot
he’s better than Shawn Springs, but Springs has a better contract… and the Redskins will probably get a 4th rounder at best.
Hard question
I’ll give you the cop out answer, whatever another team is willing to give. :)
Okay really, a 4th rounder would probably be pushing it. I would be really nice to know what the lions where willing to give up.
Wow.
That is bad news for us. I wonder what they gave up?
I’m cool with not landing Haynesworth- everyone knew that he was going to get overpaid by someone, and that just so happened to be Snyder.
Even though I completely sympathize with not wanting to end a career with the Lions, screw Lucas for killing that trade, I can’t wait to burn him on whatever team he lands on- and just hope we can get a 4th or 5th rounder for him.
