Landon Johnson Deal Imminent

The Carolina Panthers are planning to keep linebacker Landon Johnson and are reworking his contract to save approximately $1 million in salary cap space for the 2009 season.

-Inside the Panthers

The deal makes sense. Johnson would face trouble finding a starting job elsewhere in the league after failing to knock out Na'il Diggs for the starting job. He'll challenge him once again and even if he doesn't make the starting team he'll be a talented backup.

Agreed

I think its a good move. He knows the system, can at least contribute on special teams, and now will save the same amount as releasing him.

He has experience playing all three LB spots

In spite of his disappointing 2008 I can understand why they are bringing him back. The flexibility will allow for the lose of Seward and maybe Anderson as well.

I am always in agreement when we save as much money in keeping a player on the roster as it would cost to release that player…except in certain instances. I agree with this move though.

I like the move.

Can never have too many LB’s that already know the system and have starter experence

Wait for the the 2009 Oaklands A's season to start I can not. Herh herh herh.

I agree!

Have you all heard that they changed Gamble’s contract to open 8 mil on the cap?! Hurney is doing a great job so far. Gross . . . check. Peppers tagged . . . check. Freeing up cap space . . . still to be determined but looks like a check. There is still a lot to do however. Move or not move Pep. Fill Pep’s starting position. Get DT depth. Get CB depth. Get OL depth.
