michael vick

Do you guys think Vick could have a future in Carolina? I'm going to highlight some pros and cons. First of all, he throws the ball harder and faster than Jake. He has one of the strongest arms I've ever seen. He can do ridiculously amazing things running the ball. His accuracy isn't much worse than Jake's, plus he would very rarely throw the ball more than 20-25 times in a game, like Jake. I think about him in the Cardinals game, and I think he may have run the ball a couple times instead of throwing INTs. Overall, I don't think he'd be better than Jake, but I think any team that signs him should be able to sign him for minimum wage. I mean, if he wants more money than Matt Moore, I wouldn't sign him. He should get 3rd string money, and if he proves that his attitude toward football hasn't changed, then we cut him at a cost less than we paid Carr. If he was in our camp this offseason, he could compete with Moore and McCown for a back-up spot. As for the negatives, well, they're on him.  In the past, he chose not to spend his offseason learning playbooks and practicing with his receivers. I think Jake's leadership, Smitty's fire, Moose's teaching, and the RBs skills would humble him quickly.  If not, he gets cut.  What do you think?

Mike Vick

I believe he would actually be a slight upgrade to Jake. Maybe that’s because I’m still bitter about the playoff loss. The main issue would be that Vick doesn’t fit the mold for the kind of player Jerry Richardson or John Fox want on the Panthers squad. Keyshawn Johnson was somewhat of a controversial player with his sideline antics and me first mentality, but this was an exception. Since Vick has paid his dues to society, somebody will give him a chance again, but I kinda doubt it’s the Panthers. Stranger things have happened though.

doubtful

i’d give it a less than 5% chance that vick ends up in carolina. he just not that kind of player that richardson/fox takes like dave said. maybe if fox met with vick and things went good and he agreed to be signed for cheap maybe, but i still say doubt it.

but shouldn’t we be more concerned with re-signing gross right now? they only have like 5 days left to sign him and franchise peppers or we are gonna lose 2 of our best people with no compensation.

If the Panthers signed Mike Vick

I would seriously quit watching professional football, simply because he is a born douchebag and mostly because I never thought he was that great of a quarterback. I can only imagine him throwing one hop throws to Steve Smith.

i disagree with you about Vick, but don’t worry, I like the idea of him coming to Carolina, but it’s not gonna happen. He’s a playmaker, but I really don’t think he would outperform Matt Moore in making good reads, getting rid of the ball quickly, and showing poise in the pocket. Therefore, we won’t sign him.

As for signing Gross, I don’t think we can have a higher priority than that. I’d rather franchise Gross and flat out lose Peppers than do anything that will result in losing Gross. But we won’t be able to franchise both, so if we don’t have a deal done with Gross, we’ll franchise him and Peppers will just walk.

Tough call

I’m sure to have a minority opinion…but I would say to not sign him because I just never thought he was that good of a QB, not because of the conviction. He does not have accuracy but the mobility is certainly awesome.

Agreed

Mobility = amazing
QB skills = not so much.

Mike Vick

Is at his best when he’s rushing 1,000 yards a season as QB. Otherwise he doesn’t have the accuracy to survive in the NFL. But you know if we sign him we’re going to have thousands of dog lovers blocking the entrance to the stadium and having all sorts of protests. Definitely not worth the trouble.

i agree that he wasn’t that great of a passer, but i think the reason he never truly developed into one is a lack of maturity and work ethic. If those two things have changed, he can be great. With his inaccurate passing, a new OC every year, and his marijuana/dogfighting lifestyle, he still made 3 Pro Bowls and 1 NFC Championship game. If we get him for minimum wage, and he can’t be anymore accurate, then cut him. But the truth is that i don’t think he’s worth more than minimum wage, but i’m sure some clubs will be willing to give him money like Luke McCown got in Tampa, and he’ll fight for the starting job. I don’t think he can beat out Jake next year, and no matter how he plays, I’d still want to draft a QB in the 1st rd next year. i’m still big on Tebow.

He's not worth it

And I don’t mean the money. Can you imagine the backlash from the PeTA / SPCA folks? It is completely against our “family first” mentality (which I dislike).

I think the guy could still probably play (though probably best in a wildcat-like offense).

Personally, I feel no anger towards him as a human being. I think what he did was wrong, but he will have paid his debt. However, this will be THE distraction of the ’09 season, which should be avoided at all costs.

He is NOT a quarterback, first and foremeost.

He is however perfect for the wildcat or special teams.

I have always thought that if he hasn’t lost much in his skillset, he would be a bargain.
