Beginning of the year we were pretty split on this one
For other reasons too, but it seemed like about half of us backed Pep but not Jake, while the others backed Jake and not Pep… with a few neutral exceptions. I was more so in the 1st camp. Doesn’t really matter much now. They both failed to live up to their contracts, and the seasons shot… well most likely.

Honestly we didn't have much choice
You don’t let a player of Pepper’s caliber go for nothing, and without Delhomme’s deal we couldn’t of signed our rookies. If Pepper’s hadn’t of gotten hurt who knows what he could have accomplished.

Absolutely I agree
I feel that this is the time to see what we have for the 2010 season.
Let Matt Moore finish it out to at least address an important issue concerning strategy for the draft.
Let Matt Moore finish it out so at least fans can enjoy the games
Games lose a little something once you know your out of the post season. But getting to see how Moore fairs is something to look forward to.

No love for AJ Feeley?
I’d like to see him perform, too.

It'd be nice to see him...
But really, how long would Feeley hold up before we were right back in the same position?
He’s only two years younger than Delhomme but on the same token, he’s the same age as Brady and a year younger than Manning.
I wouldn’t object to it, if he won the starting job he could be a band aid but we’d really need to be focused on grooming his replacement while he was starting.
Double Trouble; we've got the best running backs in the NFL that never see the ball!
When addressing Feeley
He has the experience but moore has the time within the system.
I have always thought that Feeley is a decent quarterback. Maybe if Moore plays well enough to allow for a quarterback competition with Feeley next year, we cut bait with Delhomme, and draft a future quarterback through the draft.
What a joke
Of course Peppers is the highest tender ever, that is kinda how inflation works. That record is sure to be broken in the next 2 years.
And how exactly will Peppers limit us for “years to come”? He is off the books next year. Jake’s deal freed up some much needed cap space at the time and is only signed for two more years.
Not saying both deals are good (although you could sure defend them at the time they were made) but they really aren’t detrimental to the overall franchise.
correction
I think Delhomme has 3 more years of guaranteed money? Anyone?
Regardless, I don’t expect him to be around to finish out the deal anyways – but it isn’t like we are the only team to have to eat some money on players.
I believe he’s here til ‘14. If I remember correctly, though, even he didn’t expect to finish the entire contract when he signed it. He did it for the benefit of the team to free up the space but had thought (I wont say planned because I can’t remember exactly what he said or what his exact intentions were) of retiring before the contract was fulfilled.
I’m sure someone around here will know the entire story inside and out.
Helpful reminder for James at seasons end: 2nd Rnd CSR Fan Draft Pick.
