Michael Vick, Future Panther?

Was watching the Eagles v. Falcons and was astonished at how the fans in the south love Vick. The Falcon fans made it seem like it was an Eagles home game when he scored. Seeing how much the south loves Vick and after he is done with this season, could it be a possibility that Vick will come to Carolina?

Star-divide

With N.O. and Atlanta set at the QB position that leaves Tampa, but with such a poor record they will invest in a top prospect.

Tampa is set with Freeman. He’s going to be a very good player, there’s no need for them to invest in anything more than a back-up, which I think Johnson is more than capable of being. I’ve predicted Tampa gets at least 10 wins next season. Their pieces will fall in place, Freeman will be vastly improved, everything will just be more comfortable, not to mention an easy schedule and very high draft picks. There won’t be near as much confusion as they’ve went through this season, either,

I think most Panther fans are still hoping Moore explodes into something that resembles a star. If he proves decent, he, Delhomme, and a rookie QB look to fill our QB depth next season, in my opinion. There’s no way we cut Delhomme and take such a lo$$, so that’s one slot. Moore has been our back up for three years, even if he doesn’t play well, I don’t think they’re going to get rid of him. That’s two slots. Now the third one is the one that worries me – McCown will be back from injury and we might still have Feeley. I don’t know how long they signed him (I’d hope just a year) and I don’t know when McCown’s contract is up. If one of them stays, we might not feel the need to draft a rook. The third spot is in question, but there’s three guys that could take it before Vick comes into the picture.

Assuming we took him, what would we do with him? Williams and Stewart are already running over defenses even when they know it’s coming, with no passing game and all. We could try some wild cat stuff but what would we really gain? Kind of goes back to the fact Williams and Stewart are already running over defenses, no need to try any tricks. I’d rather bolster our o-line.

And I'd rather not deal with Vick either

He’s got skills, just not the type we can utilize. Jake’s been pretty mobile this season anyways. ; )

Jake mobile, of course!

Of course he is because he has to catch the defender who caught his interception.

Actually at the beginning of the game

The reaction to Vick was overwhelmingly negative.
Once the score was out of hand and many fans left, there became a plurality of Eagles fans and pro Vick Falcon fans that stayed and cheered for him.
IMO the Panthers would be wise to stay away from Vick because first and foremost, he still hasn’t been able to catch up to the speed of the NFL and second he is a polarizing figure, whose presence has torn the Eagles fan base apart and will probably do the same wherever he goes.

I wish there was a maybe option.:(

But if we did get them then we wouldn’t be so predictable with the wildcat.

Here we go again

Please don’t start this discussion again. You will NOT see Michael Vick in a Carolina Panther uniform.

My only thoughts...

where is the “do not want” dog picture when we need it?

Vick — no way in hell.

by bwsmith25 on Dec 7, 2009 10:39 AM EST reply actions

HAHAH

I don’t want Vick but I’d hope people can remember the NFL and his personal life are two completely different things. I might not agree with what he did but I’m not the one to judge him, so it’s irrelevant to me unless it’s going to cause him to win or lose a game. Being it’s not, I only view Vick as a player, not a dog fighter.

They eat dog in many countries just as we eat cow and chicken.

I don't un-want him b/c of the dog fighting...

I un-want him because he is not that great of a QB.

I may be in the minority — but I have never seen him as more than a glorified RB under center.

by bwsmith25 on Dec 7, 2009 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

LOL, I like that word..

Yeah, he’s a great gimmick player (imo) but not that great when you need to move down field fast.

Vick

Not only the whole dog thing (which shouldn’t be overlooked ) but he has been involved with drugs and threw up the middle finger to a group of fans inside his own stadium. I’m fine with him doing what he wants to do off the field but when you are in the NFL, as soon as your personal actions become illegal actions then he is affecting more than just himself.

Throw in the fact that he can’t even throw the ball (kinda important for a QB) and I’ll pass on him very easily.

vick, maybe 12 months ago

i think vick would’ve been a good addition to the team we have now, and maybe could’ve have helped us in some of those multiple turnover games. but going into next season, i think he would be great for competition, but i think he’s not on the same level as jason campbell, and we still need to bring in some young talent to develop. if we’re looking for someone to hold us over for a year or two, vick or daunte culpepper could do the trick. but we need a qb who can be a solid starter for the next decade (or 293 straight games if we’re lucky). i say we go for campbell, but we might get outbid. it’s also possible that the redskins bring in a new coach, and that guy re-signs campbell. i think vick will be cut in the spring, and we can sign him, but i just don’t see him as the long term answer. he’s an upgrade over jake, but not the long-term answer in my opinion. also, are we sure he can learn the offense well enough and throw the ball well enough to beat out moore, feeley, cantwell, jake and mccown in training camp. competition might be pretty deep next year.

by usana_gaines on Dec 7, 2009 2:27 PM EST reply actions

Vick first of all will NOT be a Panther

He’s not the type of guy we sign, he doesn’t fit our standards. Secondly, no way is he better than anyone else we could bring in. He is not a QB anymore, he’s a gimmick player, and not a fit for our scheme. I’m thinking Campbell looks more and more like a good pickup, only Snyder might re-sign him now that he has played well. Or not, you never know what Snyder will do.

by Flowing Willow on Dec 8, 2009 2:16 AM EST up reply actions

Snyder might decide he wants to resign Campbell, but would Campbell resign?

You’re talking about a QB who’s been jerked around more than any other QB in the NFL. He basically demanded a trade in the offseason when the whole:

’We’re getting Cassell, no, we’re getting Cutler, no, we’re getting Sanchez"

debacle arose. The skins could franchise him and hope to make him a deal, but ultimately I think they’ll realize they have a very disgruntled player on their hands, but one who’s professional enough to hide it during the season.

Provided they franchise Campbell, and we refranchise Pep (assuming he doesn’t want to resign) would you trade Pep for Campbell straight up? I think I would.

by James The Aussie on Dec 8, 2009 8:33 AM EST up reply actions

Ouch!

That’s tough! Could we get a 3rd rounder in there? Peppers would make an immediate impact, whereas (assuming Fox remains HC) Campbell would probably sit a week or three seasons while learning the offense.

I’d take…
Moore > Campbell > Delhomme

At depth any day… Delhomme is definitely worth having around because of his experience, he could really help Moore & Campbell grow. And, if anything were to happen to them, he’d be the best starting third stringer in the NFL. (I put Moore ahead of Campbell because he’s familiar with the system already… wouldn’t be surprised to see Campbell take 1st string but it’d be an interesting battle)

you trade for Campbell to start him immediately

Right now Campbell is playing some of his best football, even on the offensively inept Redskins. Give him the talent we have at RB and Steve Smith, and he could really shine.

by Tater596 on Dec 8, 2009 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

I completely agree with you but we’re talking about Fox.

Do not agree.. Campbell isn’t worth Peppers. No way no how!

by tarheelfan on Dec 8, 2009 4:27 PM EST reply actions

Does Pep want to remain a Panther?

That’s a big motivating factor.

by James The Aussie on Dec 8, 2009 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

I'll say like I have since that whole situation started

Peppers will re-sign, and this whole situation will blow over like Lance Briggs in Chicago.

by Flowing Willow on Dec 9, 2009 5:33 AM EST up reply actions

I hope you're right.

The Briggs situation was simpler though, it was all about the money. When Chicago were willing to pony up the dough his John Hancock was on the paper in a flash.

Peppers turned down the big money offer. He wants a fresh start and be a smaller fish in a bigger pond, it’s tough to imagine Charlotte ever filling this need.

Peppers is, and always has been, an enigmatic player. I think it’s tough for anyone to know what’s going through his head. Couple this will a terrible, inexperienced agent and you have a volatile situation.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James The Aussie on Dec 9, 2009 7:25 AM EST up reply actions

That's easy!

So we simply find a mad scientist and have him reduce Peppers to 4 feet tall. Boom! He’s a small fish in a big pond! AND he can run through peoples legs to sack the QB.

Double Trouble; we've got the best running backs in the NFL that never see the ball!

by D-Ranged1 on Dec 9, 2009 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

haha, yeah

though I haven’t noticed that the media has been as “voracious” trying to get to Peppers. Maybe he can fade into the background now.

by Flowing Willow on Dec 10, 2009 2:54 AM EST up reply actions

I think it's been in the community, not from the media.

I think he has this notion that magically a 6’8", 285 lb man can get around incognito in New York or Dallas rather than Charlotte.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James The Aussie on Dec 10, 2009 8:21 AM EST up reply actions

LOL!

All he has to do is buy a blonde wig, some high heels, a dress, and some make up and he can go incognito all he wants.

Just make sure he knows not to wear that disguise at night, or he might get even more attention.

Double Trouble; we've got the best running backs in the NFL that never see the ball!

by D-Ranged1 on Dec 10, 2009 12:45 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, he might end up in Eddie Murphy's car...

that would be bad.
