Around SBN: Identifying The 19th-Best Team In Baseball

Panthers QB Jake Delhomme looks doubtful to return this week, according to a league source.

Delhomme, who has missed the past two games with a finger injury, is not expected back for practice Wednesday and is still experiencing swelling and discomfort, according to the source. He will be re-evaluated at the end of the week, but a return for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings is not expected at this point.

This does not hurt my feelings...

Howdy People! I have been an avid reader of the Cat Scratch Reader for quite some time, and finally… I have posted!!

As the subject reads, Jake being on the bench for another game does not hurt my feelings. He’s a very likable player, and he has tried hard. In this world, trying hard only counts for so much. And it seems as though, Moore seems to make quicker decisions and doesn’t take as many risky shots. I do hope to see him have a breakout game. Not sure of the possibility of that happening this season, but it would nice!!

Welcome to the blog SwankTheTank!

I hope Moore breaks out soon too… it would be really nice to not have to draft the position.

If you make bad decisions...

It doesn’t matter how quickly you do it.

How many 'bad' decisions did he make against the Patriots?

I know you meant this for MP...

but to my eye, he made none, other than not calling T.O. with 30 seconds left in the half. By letting the clock run down by 15 seconds before the next snap, it prevented us from going for a FG after the hook and ladder play. (That also falls on the coaches.)

Sure, he threw high early in the game, but those were errant passes, not bad decisions, as his receivers were open.

Are you serious?

He threw directly at DBs no less than four times, and his throws were all over the place.

A throw that's off line is errant, not a bad decision.

A bad decision is throwing into heavy traffic, not bad when the receiver is wide open.

So if you throw directly into the hands of a player on the other team...

That’s a good decision?

You really want to debate this?

Let me spell it out for you:

If the receiver’s open, it’s not a bad decision to throw it to him.
If the throw’s not where it should be, and gets picked off, it’s not, therefore, a bad DECISION, but a bad throw. Everyone else here seems to be able to grasp that.

I’m not excusing the bad (“errant”) throw; I’m just not calling it a bad decision — such as the multiple times Delhomme, your fair-haired boy, chose (there’s that DECISION word again, get it?) to try to squeeze a throw into double or triple coverage.

Shall we let this drop? It’s plainly semantics you’re again parsing.

Moore must have more zip on his throws than Delhomme

Because when Delhomme throws the ball directly into the receivers hands they usually catch it for an INT.

by dudemanhey on Dec 20, 2009 2:09 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, the receivers usually let it drop out of their hands directly to a DB.

I suppose it's looking at the alternatives..

We can wait a while for Delhomme to make a bad decision or let Moore make a bad decision quickly.

Wooo, I love my team. hahaha

Moore hasn't really shown a propensity to make good decisions at any point.

That’s the difference.

Valid points... Indeed!

Over 14 weeks, I guess I haven’t been seeing any constancy at the QB position to a point where a 20 yard gain through the air is “big” deal. I think that’s where my view has been brewed from. The two good pass plays I see in a game, that make me think big things are coming are simply something that many teams’ fans see on every other drive. (Except for the Bears… Jay Cutler is a girl… I have proof.) Hahaha!

Again...Welcome to the blog Swank theTank

Glad you finally posted something.

Yes, the Delhomme to Smitty big play is now a thing of the past….

oh yeah

and NOT a bad decision.

by dudemanhey on Dec 20, 2009 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

You're right.

It’s a fine decision to toss up a jump ball when you have one of the best receivers in the league. He does, however, actually have to be running the right route and fighting for the ball, something he has not done consistently all year.

Smith ALWAYS fights for the ball

Running the right route he messed up sure, but Smith’s fire is what makes him such a great player.

As a sidenote, how sad is it that to defend Jake you have to bash Smith?

Who's bashing?

I’m stating facts. Smith has let plenty of eventually picked balls go without a fight.
