Jeff Otah placed on injured reserve
Just when you think the Panthers can't get any more injury ravaged, Otah is done for the season with a knee injury.
Tip of the hat to PantherPride for breaking the bad news on CSR.

This really sucks
I just hope its nothing serious for the long term. hes been a good player for us despite the penalties he had. i really like this guy and hope he can recover
It's not.
They just knew he was gonna need a month plus, so no sense in wasting the roster spot.

I'll also note that he's been pretty disappointing given the haul we gave up for him.
He’ll never be an LT, and he gets burned pretty regularly by good pass-rushers. Add this and his “lingering ankle injury,” and I think we should have just taken Stewart and figured something else out at OL. Were that the case, we’d still have a 1st-rounder for next year.

That's a lot of 'ifs'
‘gets burned regularly by good pass rushers’? For example?…
MP, its obvious you don’t like the guy and will never get over the trade no matter of he gets selected to 10 straight PBs. Maybe if we didn’t make the trade but instead picked a bust…
Otah is in his 2nd year. I don’t see how you can say the guy is ‘disappointing’ given our running game has been top5 since he arrived.

Wait, wait, wait...
When is he getting selected to the Pro Bowl? It’s obvious you like the guy and will never admit it was an awful trade no matter if he loses his starting job next year and is out of the league before his rookie contract is up.

I have to lean towards..
‘Pro bowl’ quicker than ‘out of the league’.
When our team does good, the players are going to receive a ‘good recognition’ regardless how they’re playing individually.. When we play bad, they’re going to receive ‘bad recognition’. (Not from us fans, but from the media and those outside of the Panthers fan base)
I think the Panthers having a good season next year (or the year after, or the year after) will bring our players (especially the young ones) to a new light and possibly lead a few, including Otah, to the PB. (Hopefully the Panthers to a SB or ten as well)
Helpful reminder for James at seasons end: 2nd Rnd CSR Fan Draft Pick.
I would too...
Just trying to point out the fact that we’ve both got our opinion on the matter.

Okay thank god we only have three games remaining.
Thank godness we only have the Vikes, Giants and Saints left to play b/c we are going to have a hard time just fielding a team to play those final three games. No way we win another game, NO WAY. We are done and have been done since Kemo got hurt 30mins into training camp and every injury since has been a trickle effect of the Kemo injury.
I mean what can you say ~ I am just glad this season in nearing a close b/c this is becoming a joke now; but I cannot help but wonder if we were say 8-5 or higher would Otah be on IR right now I doubt it.
Otah is going to be a Pro Bowler one day, he has great strength and size granted he does get beaten sometimes but so does every OT in the NFL. Otah and Gross are going to be our tackles for years to come so I wouldn’t bash the guy to hard. My only advice to him would be that he needs to suck it up at some point like next season and play through some of these injuries.
Of course not paying Delhomme and Peppers all that money would mean that we would still have our former great backup O-Linemen. Hmm. now what do you do ? I guess G. Schawartz or G. Williams get to see their first action of the season.
Just glad this is almost over and the Vikes are going to kill us so I am glad I have to be at work early on Monday morning b/c I literally cannot watch this abuse any longer.

Schwartz played against the Pats
and NFL.com says he also played against the Jets and TB. Maybe you meant starting action, if so, my bad.
Also, when I saw the headline for Otah, I knew MP would be commenting on how terrible he is. Low and behold, I was right. Pissing on Otah is like pissing on Brown: why do it? They didn’t make the trades, and neither looks like an outright bust. They also knew what they were getting in Otah, so if you’re going to take it out on anyone, it should be Hurney.

lol...Yeah...Jake is great, best QB in history
and Peppers, Otah & Brown suck. I think that sums it up.

Sorry for picking on you MP
But it does piss me off that the 49er pick is going to be a Top 10 more than likely. So in that he has a good point. Looking now at the where that pick is ending up makes the Brown trade look bad…hopefully he will turn that equation around next season.

And their pick may end up being a bust himself...too early to tell.
so what are you apologizing for? Has MP EVER apologized for anything he said? Show me one time.
Yeah, Brown will be a quality player
He’ll always be a little weak against the run, but he has a heck of a motor and is relentless. Depending on how Goodson and the 49ers pick pan out, I like the trade, it took a need off the table.
BTW Jaxon, I’d like to say apologizing to MP takes guts, the man may learn from it, or let it get to his head, we will see.

But you were thinking it ;)
Just kidding.

I have nothing against Otah.
He’s just not a good enough player to have been worth trading for. And you’re right, that’s absolutely on the management team. I’ve never suggested it wasn’t. But if we weren’t going to get Clady, there wasn’t another tackle worth drafting in the first or blowing that kind of pick package on, particularly one who’ll never have the skillset to play LT.

What?
How exactly has Kemoeatu’s injury led to the others?
And of course Otah wouldn’t be on IR if we were headed for the playoffs. Gross probably wouldn’t either.
Otah as a Pro Bowler is pretty ridiculous. He’s slow and awful against speed rushers, and, as you mentioned, will take a seat on the bench any time a nagging injury crops up.
Delhomme’s contract did nothing to keep us from retaining Hangartner, Bridges, and Omiyale. In fact, it reduced his cap number by about 20%.

He isn't the strongest against speed guys, but he isn't a slob like you're comment makes him out to be
We knew we were getting a roadgrader at RT, and that’s what we have. Our run game success probably isn’t close to effective without Otah.

Yeah, that was clear from how much we lost in the run game last night without him.

Chalk this season up to the injury bug?
From Andrew Mason at panthers.com
“When factoring in the games lost by players whose injuries didn’t necessitate placement on injured reserve, Carolina’s starters have lost a combined 56 man-games to injury and are guaranteed to lose at least 74, given the afore-mentioned starting sextet’s absence from the next three games.
During the Panthers’ 12-4 season last year, they had only 16 man-games lost by starters to injuries. Just five players were placed on injured reserve, and only one was a starter: guard Keydrick Vincent, who sat out the final two regular-season games. "
