Panthers vs. Patriots Game Day Open Thread
Carolina Panthers at New England Patriots, Dec 13, 2009 1:00 PM EST
Warning: If you are reading this it is less than one hour until kick off. Run! Hurry! Get your favorite beverage, some football grub, your lucky hat. Put on that Panther jersey and get ready for some classic cold weather football. It's sunny at the moment but still freezing in Foxboro.
Both teams need to guard against missed tackles and dropped passes. Me? I'll be guarding against soggy shoes as it rainy here (but a comfortable 65 degrees).
I can't help myself...This now an Open Thread!

Anyone see the NFL Network...
…last night, around midnight? They showed the last quarter of the Pats Panthers SB from 04. Despite the result it was pretty motivating to see positive, accurate passing, a QB with time in the pocket – but mobile when he had to be, big players stepping up to make big plays (Smitty, Moose, Proehl), strong running……..great stuff!
Few dodgy ref calls and those missed 2 pt conversions……ah, what might have been.
GO PANTHERS!!
Wife, kids & and got our Panther gear & game faces on and we’re headed to our favorite bar for this one.
Bring it on Baby!
LOL especially here in the Philly area
I can only do this on afternoons when the Eagles aren’t playing. The Iggles creep show won’t start until later this afternoon since the Eagles Giants game is tonight
Weather has gone from summy to gray skies

Supposed to get rainy here in Foxborough as the game progresses, but for now dry conditions prevail under gray skies. #Panthers #Patriots

what i expect
the patriots aren’t ready for us. their d-line isn’t ready for our run game. they are not a great defense, and d-will is aching to play. he had a 18 carry, 40 yd game, and then he missed a game. what? he’s ready to explode. not only that, but the charges against beason were dropped. he’s not distracted like he was last week (he played well last week, but i want 12 tackles and an int). smitty is gonna get open more often and moore is gonna let it fly. i think if moore does what the coaches say, and it works, and we lose, no one will notice. moore has to let it fly and win a couple big ones to have a shot to be the starter the rest of the year and in training camp.
in other words, carolina 27, patriots 22.
hope
Pregame analysis unanimously voted the pats to win. We have a good chance now.

Adam, comment when his balls are hitting receivers in the face.
I remember when Chris Weinke was playing. He was literally hitting guys in the face on every throw and it took them a entire quarter to finally wake up.
Poor guy. If the Panthers just gave him another chance he’d probably have taken over the franchise for the year. Lol

But the coaches need to give Moore the ball so that we can have a chance to complete it on 3rd and 10 or 3rd and 12 situations. They have no trust in the man, at all. Conservative playcalling like this isn’t going to win against teams like the Patriots.

I would typically agree...
Because I love running the ball but I feel if we were to do it more, New England would tighten up on it and we’d see less ground success… Of course, that’s where the pass comes in but I’m still not positive Moore can make that pass count consistently.

an 89.3 qb rating and the fact that he’s young and we can’t expect him to be Peyton Manning leaves us with much to be excited about. I think he can be the future of this organization. I really don’t see the need at going out and getting a QB if matt moore can play this well
He's had 3 years to learn the playbook and know his receivers.

The problem with the offensive struggles...
…should be blamed on the coaching staff.
Davidson (or whoever is calling the pays) is horrible.
Moore is decent, and should have been the starter after week 1, 2 or 3, so that now in week 15 he wouldn’t look like a rookie and would be more acclimated with this offense. So that rests on Fox.
Plus a below average receiving corps doesn’t help matters. Whatever happened to K Moore?

I’m a little skeptical of Moore. But It has to be said that his numbers improved against a pretty decent team. I saw improvement by Moore, including pointing out blitzes, etc.
I am becoming concerned about his arm strength though. I haven’t seen a single pass with any zip and a lot of floating deep balls. I’m usually multitasking during games though… Maybe I just missed one or two

The LBs need to be able to go with blockers 1-on-1
and shed the blockers & make plays.
If you watch plays in the game today…
There was one where Peppers was neutralized by a TE. That can’t happen in a 3-4.
There was another where the TE absolutely stopped Beason, and the RB snuck past for extra yardage.

Coaching mistakes all around really. Foxy should never have tried a 52 yard field goal in that terrible weather. The short field and subsequent touchdown gave NE new life. You can’t always ask the defense to bail you out when the other side always gets great field position.
Fox is gone, because Richardson is losing money

Fox
just doesn’t seem willing to put in the time to develop a QB. We should’ve drafted one 2 or 3 years ago, but they kept putting it off to add guys like Vinny T or David Carr or AJ Feeley or what-not.

Goodson is the kind of back that would have a ton of value in a place like Detroit that really needs help. Kevin Smith isn’t the answer there. Not to mention he could be a good double threat back. Coupled with another lower pick he could really help out on some teams.

I really do get your point and I’d love to agree but I can’t help but feel it would end up a mistake. Williams is the speed, Stewart is the power. Sutton is a little of both but excels at neither (so far). Goodson still needs work but will end up solid.

ONLY if it can help us get some serious power for our passing game
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
we don't need serious power in a passing game
we were never that powerful during the year of the Superbowl…it was about solid D and a kick ass running game….we need someone not to throw picks and manage 3rd downs

That was 2003
How many top 5 rushing teams are in the top 10 this year?
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
NYG, NO, Carolina, Miami, Tennessee
Only New Orleans is an elite team… And that’s because they have the passing game to support it
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
so that makes them elite eh?
were the Patriots elite when they got their ass handed to them in the big show?
by MHEhrichs_52 on Dec 13, 2009 5:12 PM EST up reply actions
what the fuck? yes they were
they were at worst the number 2 team in the nfl? how would that make them not elite
agreed Pats are an elite team
but New Orleans is not and will not be considered an elite team
by MHEhrichs_52 on Dec 13, 2009 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
Elite means they are in the playoff hunt almost every year
ie Colts, Pats, Giants, Eagles

Bengals don't have a top 5 running game

We were last year, we can do it again.

Last year we had a serious pasing threat
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city

Depends. If your son’s like me and respects what Delhomme’s done for this franchise and likes him as a person, he’s a good option.
If you’re looking for longevity, go with Beason or Williams.

OK here comes an out of town perspective...
Panthers went into a Hornet’s nest today and the players (particularly on the defensive side) showed a ton of heart and kept this game winnable thru 3.5 quarters.
At this point, I truly believe that Meeks is the real deal and think we are just a QB or a humility driven OC, or more pedestrian caliber schedule away from big time success.
Gotta bring this up at the risk of sounding like a whiner—which I am not—-but the NFL has a real problem with the officiating right now. I’m not saying anything is fixed…that is stupid…but let me say these guys they got officiating are part timers and they are going into these games with a “template” on who they think should win and you’ll see calls go that direction at the end of the half or end of the game, or at crunch time depending on the situation.
I watched todays game with a bar full of neutral fans that unanimously agreed tht the Patriots were the benificiaries of such a scenario today. Anyway heads up Panthers fans, we have a solid foundation with alot of heart and we will be back…SOON!!!!
Just wanted to say on behalf of my wife kids & I, we’re proud to be a Panthers fans and you guys are stuck with our dumb-ass perhaps out of touch reality a$$es forever!!!
GO PANTHERS!!
I still think you stole my name. ;)
Good game. You guys just need a few tweaks and you’ll be right back in it.
Didn't steal it but Kudos...
and mutual admiration for a great choice in screennames.
I take it your a Pats fan.. Good game & good luck the rest of this season.
Charlie Weis is looking for a job...
how about hiring him as the new OC?
Just kidding. ;)
Jake Delhomme > Matt Moore
I think that’s pretty obvious. Even with the INTs this season he’s moving the ball better.
And Davidson is awful. He’s moved below Crossman on my list…
im new so hello all
from uk so gimme a break if i dont know all about college football and everything
where has goodson disappeared to?
There are Panther fans from all around the world here :)
I’m sure someone would be along shortly to welcome you but I’ll go ahead and do it..
Welcome to CSR :)
Goodson has had a bit of a fumbling problem so hasn’t seen much action. He seems like he’ll be a pretty explosive play maker when he matures into NFL material though.
Helpful reminder for James at seasons end: 2nd Rnd CSR Fan Draft Pick.
