I completely missed the new defensive package on the field (watching the game with a 2 1/2 year old and 2 month old will do that), but Darrin Gantt provides an interesting writeup of a new scheme the Panthers used against Arizona.

I was wondering why I saw Wesley so much

Nice to see Meeks is being more creative with the defense. Continuing his matra of speed over size seems to pay dividends.

Kurt Warner and the O-Line looked really lost with Carolina’s blitz packages, it reminded me of how Jake and our O-line looked vs. Philly.

My Ron Meeks man crush continues.

Finally someone willing to take risks

I’m sure he will have enough wrinkles to keep the Saints honest

and now

theres a week of tape on it, advantage who dats

I’m sure that’s what teams said about the wildcat:

“We have a week’s worth of tape now… we’re set!”

vs the saints

Miami’s wildcat netted 30 yards in 14 plays

by DrewBreesManCrush on Nov 6, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

If the Saints have so much defensive ability and prowess...

how come they couldn’t stop Michael Turner from getting over 150 rushing yards when there was over a season on tape on him.

What a little tiny, miniscule bit of success does to a fanbase… it actually makes me a little sad that 7 wins makes the Saints fanbase feel like their Superbowl champions.

we didnt stop them from running (no excuses)

mia too (just not in the wildcat). i hope we do a better job this week, but i wouldnt be surprised to see williams and stewart to do the same (total, not each). the diff is, atl has a passing game to keep us honest, yall dont.

as for the success going to our heads, i remember a lot of panthers fans flaunting their 12-4 record before the season started. but now we are the crazy delusional fans?

by DrewBreesManCrush on Nov 6, 2009 2:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Which Panther fans were flaunting the record?

I have evidence of the Saints preening, show me the Panthers? Show me where we acted like God’s gift to football because we won 12 games?

I have a hard time taking anyone seriously who wrote this about our franchises loss to Arizona in the playoffs:

it was embarrassing to the south and the entire nfc though.

You must have a mighty short memory, because I remember 2006 the last time the Saints went to the playoffs and had their tails handed to them 39-14 by the Bears in the NFC championship game.

You let a Rex Grossman team beat you…. Rex… Grossman…

That wasn’t his point.

He was pointing out that a lot of teams said “Oh! Miami just used the Wildcat and ran all over New England! Well, we’ve got the tape on that, so it won’t work against us!”

Just because you have tape on something doesn’t mean you can stop it. Ask teams like the Raiders, Chiefs, and Browns about that.

A week, yeah?

I guess that is enough to stop any package.

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

it's a good thing that...

the saint’s mantra is ‘who dat’…since that’ll be a common theme as d-will streaks past them for tons of yardage ;)

it’s going to be a helluva game – for sure. go panthers!

by boywonderncsu on Nov 6, 2009 4:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm impressed...

with the defense as well. I actually saw players bumping receivers at the line of scrimmage along with the different blitz packages…very nice. Jake is still my biggest concern against the Saints who have16 interceptions and the ability to put some points up quick which could mean more passing for the Panthers. Of course that was the same concern last weekend against Zona so who knows.

I just think this is a different team

since the new DT’s have come in. The pressure up the middle has made everyone else better.

true

hopefully if ‘horrid jake’ shows up…our offense can make good tackles ;)

I don't think I've wanted to see the Panthers beat somebody so bad

since last years TB MNF game. The Saints fans are really full of themselves over on my Q&A responses on their site. They fully expect to blow us out and that nobody can touch them right now. They a completely different team this year so last years two losses to us mean nothing.

Heh, yeah

I’m not a big fan of overconfidence or trash talking myself. I don’t mind them just being confident, because they should be going into this game, but the overconfidence reminds me way too much of Red Wings fans from last year’s SCF.

We all know how that turned out.

Last season’s rather.

Jaxon, that typically happens when a team only has a mere taste of success.

Lets face it, as a franchise they’re pretty pathetic.

32 years, 3 division championships, 6 playoff appearances.

BRAVO NEW ORLEANS!

Carolina Panthers

14 years, 1 conference championship, 3 division championships, 4 playoff appearances.

It’s only a matter of time before the clock strikes midnight and the Saints go back to being the ’aints.

thats the reason i keep hearing

that were going to come back down to earth, that our 42 (not 32) year history will somehow determine the outcome of this game. you talk about your 1 sb appearance as if youve won one. i think that we should both keep our mouths shut when it comes to postseason success (atl too).

14 years
42 years

Half your teams age and more success.

It has nothing to do with this season, it has to do with a paper bag wearing fanbase who now preen around like peacocks because they’ve managed to go 7-0.

Congrats on the 7-0, it’s a good achievement… I just find it stunning what a lack of class the NO fanbase showed over on CSC in the comments on Jaxon’s Q&A. No other fanbase has behaved like that, but the difference… they’ve all been there before; they’ve all at least SEEN the big dance.

The term ‘act like you’ve been there before’ comes to mind, and right now, Saints fans (as a whole, obviously there are exceptions) are acting like they’re untouchable.

by James The Aussie on Nov 6, 2009 2:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah, right. I did have an ACTUAL point...

which is to say that yes, their fanbase (as judged by their response to the blogger Q&A on their site) is wildly out of touch with reality. Which is to say that they’re IMHO the best team in the NFL right now, but not by a whole lot. There are a number of teams I would put in the same class as Nawleans (not Carolina, btw), so there’s not a wide berth between them and the rest.

But if you think about it, it probably makes some sense. Have the Aints ever been 7-0 before? Exactly. The only teams they’ve ever seen that were 7-0 were teams that came in and beat up on them. So they see a 7-0 record, and they think “That’s an unstoppable juggernaut!!!!” Which, in the past, is what their team has run into. Now it’s them, and they’re just giddy beyond belief.

So I’m leaving it to them. Let them enjoy this sense of invulnerability. They’ll lose soon enough, and finish with a few more losses on top of that one. And when they come crashing back to earth, we can see how they feel about things in January. In Carolina.

hahaha... yeah i deserved that

I promise I knew. That’s what I get for editing the years and. Not thinking about the simple math behind it!

That's true

but for some reason this game seems like our season is riding on it…maybe because it is since going to 3-5 will be hard to rebound from

Who even mentioned a Super Bowl appearance.

A conference championship is just that; you’re the champion of the conference and one of the two best teams in football.

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

like i said

your talking about a period of time before carolina had a team and before i was born as the time that defines our franchise now and forever. tampa and atl didnt fare any better during that stretch. so dont think that you can just multiply the wins and playoff appearances out to compare our two franchises.

by DrewBreesManCrush on Nov 6, 2009 2:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

and like I said

You can’t just take one playoff loss to Arizona and say we’re a ‘disgrace to the south’.

It’s not about multiplying wins, or commenting on the team before you were born; it’s cold, hard fact that the New Orleans Saints are the team in the NFC south who has had the least success.

What happened to the Pepper's haters the last few weeks?

The statement that he never shows up in big games definitely went out the window last week. A large part of the defenses dominance the last few weeks seriously has to do with him causing all kinds of havoc.
