Unofficial Matt Moore Prediction Post
Update by Jaxon: This post as been edited to fall within the CSR editorial standards
Assuming Matt Moore gets the start this week against the Bucs, what do you think his numbers will look like? I figure this is a perfectly reasonable post, one that even [My Daddy] can't hate on. There are no curse words in this post, just words, including one that says official in it. So, people ,learn to love me, cuz I'll be around [briefly until I violate the conduct code one last time and get an IP ban]. Anyway, I think Mr. Moore will be something like 18-24 247 yards 2 TD no picks. I truly like him to have a great start this Sunday.

Sounds good to me
I’m interested to see what he does (assuming he gets the start). We need to know what we have in him for next year (and beyond).
Hopefully he doesn’t have to throw it all too much because we will be running the ball down the Bucs throat all day.
Agreed
hopefully the run:pass ratio is around 2:1 (if not higher).
As for Moore… I’m not going to go out and predict anything, because I’m horrible at that. But it is worth noting that, in limited time I admit, his career numbers are 56.8% completion rate & 6.6 yards/attempt. (I’m actually just looking at his numbers from last year, because he’s only had 12 pass attempts this season.) That translate to about a 14/24 for 158 yards. Which, honestly, if it leads us to the win, I’m all for.

Ironic
It will be ironic if they start him and not let him pass the ball in fear he will throw a pick.
I hope he is...
at least serviceable and can move the ball down the field consistently. At least we may now find out if he has a future or we will use free agency or the draft for the future qb.
If the Panthers win the rest of the year..
with Matt Moore at center should John Fox keep his job? Too little too late?
If we win out?
I’d keep him, as long as he agrees to not just hand the starting job to Delhomme next year.

i would get rid of him
b/c his stubbornness would have prevented us from making the playoffs from not making the change earlier
I remember you first showed up after the Buffalo game
Then you disappeared until Delhomme has another bad game. Stick to your guns when Delhomme and Fox do well, you’ll get more credibility. As it is, Buffalo was the only time Delhomme was seriously considered in jeopardy, and with ARizona next up he was given one more chance.

If we win out-right with Moore behind center...
I’ll buy a Tom Brady jersey. (I absolutely despise Tom Brady.)
As for Moore @ Tampa..
125YDs 1TD 1INT – I think we’ll see a lot of short passes to keep Moore from getting picked too many times before he can even get a feel for what’s going on again. I still think Tampa is going to come up with one, though.
Double Trouble; we've got the best running backs in the NFL that never see the ball!
I'll wear a Romo Jersey cause I can't STAND him
(no I won’t)
The only prediction I have
I get the feeling the coaching staff won’t let him throw more than 15 times, 20 at the most.
I expect Steve Smith to have a HUGE game
The ball will get to him. Steve will have enthusiasm.
Team will feed off of it.
I do expect a pick, but few if any sacks, because Matt can scramble….
Here are some highlights from 2007...
two questions...
how long will jake be out with his broken finger
and
how well does moore have to do to keep the starting job when jake is back healthy….
I would hope that Moore starts for the remainder of the season. It’s not about “who gives us the best chance to win” any more, as Fox would have put it in the weeks leading up until now. It is instead about “how good is our 3rd string QB and when should we draft another?”
If the coaching staff see’s it that way, we’ll have to wait and see. It may depend on Moore’s performance but even if he does bad, I say we stick with him. We need all of these remaining games to evaluate him.
Double Trouble; we've got the best running backs in the NFL that never see the ball!
If the Panthers are smart....
They’ll let Matt Moore go out there and let it rip.
What do we have to lose? The season is over guys. We aren’t going to make it to the playoffs, and with Matt Moore behind center the Bucs will surely be stacking the box to stop the run. Let Matt Moore go out there and let it rip the first few possessions. Feed the ball to Steve Smith and Daunte Rosario, and keep the playcalling balanced with an even number of running and passing calls, favoring the running when we get near the goal line.
We need to give Matt Moore the best chance of catching fire we can. If he’s successful, then we can then concentrate on other positions in the offseason. One of the greatest ways to revive a failing team is to change whom is standing under center. Examples are all around you, look at the Titans, the Vikings, the Lions, and the Falcons.

Technically
we’re still mathematically alive.
So we have a reason (as slim as it is) to win.
And to win, we need to run, not pass.

We'll be able to do that against the Bucs.
But then we have the Vikings, the Patriots, and the Giants coming up where the Panthers will be the heavy underdogs. In those games, we’ll need to be able to pass as well, at least pass well enough to keep the opposing defenses from stacking the box.
"Once again the trousers of evil are yanked down by the mocking hands of justice!"-Revshawn
And the Bucs!
Despite them not winning much, they should be 3-1 right now with Freeman (They got screwed in ATL – I bet a lot of people can say that.)
And they’ve been a competitor in each game (Save N.O. when they started strong and quickly fell off), unlike the first half of the season when they just…. sucked.
Oh, and I agree with everything you said.
Double Trouble; we've got the best running backs in the NFL that never see the ball!
ONE DIRECTIONAL TEAM
I UNDERSTAND THAT THE PANTHERS ARE A RUN 1ST TEAM BUT TO B THAT PRODICTABLE MAKES ITS EASY FOR AN APPOSING TEAM’S DEFENSE TO PREPARE FOR THE PANTHERS.. IF YOU HAVE A QB THAT CAN THROW AT WILL THEN THAT WILL OPEN UP THE RUN GAME FOR THE 2 PERFECT BACKS WE HAVE.. IF YOU REMEMBER LAST YR WHEN DELHOMME DID A LIL DECENT WITH THE PASSING IT OPENED UP A NEW RUNNING GAME FOR BOTH STEWARD AND WILLIAMS.. NOW THAT EVERY TEAM KNOW THAT JAKE DOESNT HVE THE ABLTY TO THROW THE BALL THEY ARE STACKIN THA BOX DEEP.. ANY GOOD TEAM WILL TELL YOU THE MORE SURPRIZES YOU PUT UP IN A GAME THE BETTER YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING ARE.. DO U KNOW WHAT IT WOULD B LIKE HAVING A DEFENSE COMING UP TO THE LINE NOT KNOWING IF WE ARE GOING TO RUN OR THROW.. I STAND BEHIND THE PREVIOUS POST, LET MATT AIR IT OUT TO GET READY FOR NEXT SEASON.. GIVE HIM THE SAME CHANCE THAT SUMBODY GAVE JAKE..

My Matt Moore prediction:
As a starter in 2007 Moore averaged: 188 yards, 1 TD, 0.66 INT, 86.1 QB rating.
This was when the team was devoid of a true running game like we have now.
So, I don’t think he’s going to be throwing the ball over 25 times.
19/25, 167 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 73.25 QB rating
Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.
Of course the schedule is much tougher this time
But if he can keep the INTs to 1 or 2, and get his QB rating around 75, then we should be an improved team… sad to say.

It won't be pretty
As much as everyone loves Matt Moore (because he’s the backup I guess), he doesn’t play wide receiver, he’s not out there on special teams, and he doesn’t block.
No TDs, about 20-25 passes, a couple sacks, at least one INT, and an unimpressive game all around.
Still sounds better than Jake
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
Probably right...
at least we may get a gauge on his ability and if he is worth keeping around next year. I for one am not in love with Moore, just would like to see someone other than Jake that may give the team a chance to win. We have tried different o-linemen, we have tried different receivers, and even Beason is on special teams to help there. It has been past time to make a change at the most important position on the field.
Depends on the Playcalling
If we’re going to “get away” from the 2:1 run\pass ratio, then this is the game to do it…
I’m not good at predictions so I won’t even try, other than to say I would expect a pick on him within the first 15 passes, after that , he’ll be fine. (Coaching staff REALLY needs to work with him on “Staring down his receivers” – rookie stuff)
I think he’ll do fine in this game. I’m excited about the opportunity to see him manage a entire game. I just hope the Playcalling doesn’t stifle him. This is a good game to insert him into our offense and get his feet wet.
What I DON'T expect....
19\42 227yds 1 TD 1NT 4Sacks
14\34 130yds 0TD 4INT 3Sacks
Agreed 12th_Man_Fan
Matt Moore should do well in this game; perfect game to start him in b/c Tampa Bay is so god awful. I mean how can you not beat the Falcons with Turner having his first game back and Ryan being knocked out for the game.
Matt Moore should far well; but you have to wonder if John Fox will let him throw the football ? Remember Chris Weinke when he finally got to play a game after a long drought Fox would not let him throw. So really all this excitement over having Moore in their could be trashed if Fox and Company close the minds and playbook which I think is going to happen b/c it is John Fox history.
Go Moore. Delhomme you suck.

That’s because he was terrible.

weinke
i felt weinke always got done wrong. as a rookie, weinke set a carolina record with 63 pass attempts. seifert was the coach. when foxy was the coach, and delhomme was the starter, and got hurt, weinke started three games. in his first start, he threw the ball 61 times. how absurd is that. in his last start, we ran the ball 52 times and he threw it 7 times. weinke was never gonna be a superstar, but i think he never threw 5 interceptions in a game. imagine jake throwing 60 times in a game. that season was henning’s last as our OC.
Remember Chris Weinke when he finally got to play a game after a long drought Fox would not let him throw.
Actually, Weinke threw for a franchise record against the Giants and still couldn’t win. He completed 24 passes against the Steelers the next week and still produced only 3 points. Then they took the ball out of his hands, let Williams run wild, and beat the falcons.
So, after a long drought Fox put Weinke in, let him go wild, and he responded with 5 interceptions in two games. Look for Moore of the same Sunday… ;)
Moore will get his shots downfield
He played well vs the Bucs in ’07 with 3 passing hilites (film clips on another thread here).
More importantly, the coaches need to see what they’ve got in him — no way they’ll restrict him into being a game manager.
I see Dwayne Jarrett (if he doesn’t push off again) getting his 1st TD. Or maybe Barnidge. Or maybe both.
And these will be available because we can run the ball with impunity vs the Bucs, as we did earlier at their place, when both D-Will and Stewart went over 100 yds.
This may be our easiest game of the year (despite all that’s gone on, we’re 6 1/2 point favorites) — let’s enjoy it while we can.
If you are wondering why I elevated this post...
its a good topic regardless of who posted it. Mr. Lawson might finally be trying to abide the Code of Conduct, at least I’m going to give him one more try…
I think his predictions for Matt Moore if he starts are a little overstated.
12 for 21 210 yards; 1 Passing TD and 1 TD rushing

Seems more likely Jaxon, way more likely b/c Fox is not going to let Moore throw the ball anyway.

I seriously disagree
I feel that Matt Moore will not be placed in a situation to not create a way to lose.
Jake has put us behind the eight ball so many times this year. We are NOT a team geared to play catch up.
We are a team that creates a lead, and chisles away the opponent. We have play makers, but not game changers (other than Steve Smith).
Good call Jaxon, here's hoping he follow's the rules.
However, I find it ironic that you’re playing John Fox to adamlawson’s Jake Delhomme- giving him one more shot.
I too agree that Mr. Lawson is overstating Moore’s ability. He has him listed as completing 18 passes for 247 yards, or 13.7 yards per completion.
For comparison:
- Drew Brees: 13.2
- Tom Brady: 11.6
- Peyton Manning: 11.4
I just don’t see him surpassing every QB in the NFL for this one week.

Love the editted post btw! : D
I think Moore is somewhere in between, 9-17 125 yards, 0 pass TD’s 1 INT.

matt moore
i agree with revshawn, we have no reason to “hide” moore from the defense. let him throw the ball. i think he has a stronger arm with more zip than jake. i wanna see if he and smitty have better chemistry than jake and smitty this year. i mean how many times can we blame smitty for jake interceptions for running the wrong route?
suppose moore plays pretty well and we win out because the defense (minus beason, davis, l. johnson, kemo, etc) steps up. do we then pass on picking up another qb and name moore the starter? i think our coach next season will have alot to think about.
Unless Moore has a Brady-esque performance...
and leads us to 9-7 and we miraculously make it in the playoffs and win the NFC, we should still nab a QB in the draft for 2-3 years down the road.
Tony Pike would be a great fit for us if we could pick him up in the 2nd-3rd round.
Our record should not solely be how he is evaluated
If he gets his QB rating around or above 80, and averages about 1.5 TDs per game, then he’ll be right up there with the Flaccos and Ryans.
If his QB rating is around 70 and he has at least 1 TD per game, and 1.5 or fewer INTs, then he’ll be about the same as Freeman, but weill have out performed all other rookie QBs. And Moore is still pretty much a first year starter.
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
No, our record shouldn't be the sole factor
I should have been more clear with what I was trying to say…I mean if he comes out and plays at a Tom Brady level (good rating, few INTs, plenty of TDs).
I was just using the 9-7 record as a reference to show that if he doesn’t lose any games because of how well he plays we could possibly hold off on drafting a qb. Because if Moore can lead us to 5-0 with the remaining schedule we have, it would be an accomplishment.
