Panthers Harris Says Keep The Faith, Guys!
You guys are great --- you really are. I've been reading through the comments you left in my last post and it makes me feel thrilled to hang out with all of you. I fully intend on coming over here to talk football as often as possible. Thanks for having me ;-)
One of the comments I feel I need to respond to ASAP came from PantherPride. I'm sure a lot of you are feeling the same way he is.
Here's what PantherPride had to say...
"that was a rough loss last night and im slowly losing faith in our team. when we play to our potiential i feel like we are the team to beat in this league but it almost seems rare to see that. i still believe however that we can make the play offs atleast"
Yup - that was a tough loss, but I don't wantcha to lose any faith in the team. We're getting there... we've been close... we've had three chances to get back to .500 and haven't quite been able to pull the trigger.
Basically, our guys need to step up - MYSELF INCLUDED - and play as hard as we can to pick up some of the slack that's fallen away as a result of having some of our key players down, and I'm certain we'll get that done. We're all gonna have to take each of our performances to another level with Thomas out on defense - that's just the way it has to be.
Speaking of injuries --- I wanna address those circumstances here real soon. Stick around and I'll throw my perspective atcha sometime this week...

The faith never dies here at CSR! Just takes a few pit stops to re-fuel every now and then and comes back full force :).
I’m really worried about Thomas Jones next week. I think Peppers, if his hand feels any better, along with the rest of our d-line, can make Sanchez’s night a living hell, but I’m afraid you may be seeing a lot of Jones back there in the secondary.
I think next weeks game is absolutely winnable, despite how well they played against the Patriots in the second half today. In fact, if you guys manage to draw up the strength and determination you had against Arizona, I believe there’s not a team in the league that can hang – fanatic Panther-ism aside :). I mean, the so called “#1 offense” Saints got dominated in that first half – things just slipped a little in the second.
Good luck! Hope training goes well this week, we’ll be here dissecting information and waiting for Sunday to roll around as we do every week!

We'll keep watching regardless
but the Panthers have too much talent to not make some more noise this season. The Jets are not a bad match up for the Panthers…very winnable game if…the offense protects the ball and the defense makes their tackles. Another INT or two would be nice too.
Oh…and a few hits from the hitman!
Thanks again Chris…

its exciting to have a player to respond to something i said. thanks Chris for responding
you guys aren’t out of the playoff race yet but your chances seem to get smaller after each game and it doesn’t help you have some tough competition ahead. everyone here knows you guys can pull it off

Yet if they could somehow go 5-1 down this stretch...
they would have the confidence they could make some noise on the road in the playoffs.

Thanks again for stopping by Chris
I know you weren’t with the team during the 2003 Superbowl run, but the team was doubted then too- even in the Carolinas. People simply thought a team who won that many close games couldn’t possibly go all the way, and we were almost had the Pats then.
What am I saying? With some other losses going our way and the team stepping up I really think we can do this.
I know people are being overly critical right now, and it’s not a knock on the other guys, but it’s amazing what a difference your return made to the secondary, not to mention what you’ve meant to the Panthers since coming here. You made the retirement of Mike Minter easier for us to deal with!

And that was no easy task! (Referring to Minter)
I’ll hang there with you, James.
After seeing the trouble the Saints had against Tampa Bay (I, in no way, feel the final score was a decent representation of the battle that took place, TB just didn’t quite have the pieces in place to play) and watching some of the crazy stuff that happened today – it reminded me of one thing…
It’s the NFL! And anything can happen in the NFL!

Just go 9-7.
Imagine this. Never again will any of the commentators on ESPN be able to say “The Panthers have never had back to back winning seasons LOL!” It also gives us a little under a half and half chance of reaching the playoffs, which is more we could ask for at this point.
The story of the season though has been our inability to stick to the running game though. I was just watching the Sunday sports show earlier with Mike Minter on the local news, and even he pondered why the Panthers didn’t run the ball when they were in the red zone. We stick to the run against Dallas and that’s a guaranteed win. Realistically, we could be at 6-4 or 7-3 right now if the Panthers just run the football.
The reason the Panthers don’t make the playoffs, the biggest reason is that they didn’t run the ball long enough. These three and outs are killing our defense in the sense that they get tired as heck after long enduring drives by the other team. Give D-Will and the Beast the ball and run it down their throats.
In short, RUN THE DAMN BALL!

Sometimes I feel like I'm stalking CSR.
Hey, given the next two weeks, we could definitely be looking at the hardest stretch of our schedule at an even .500.
And I hope we murder New England 100-Nothing! Damn it! I still hold a grudge against them.
If we manage to lose only one game during the remainder of the season……. I hope it’s against Tampa Bay! I doubt their 2-14 season would be of much threat.
You know, I’ve always thought of Carolina as a team that plays to their opponent. We play up to good teams (usually beating them) and then play down to bad teams (usually losing to them). Maybe that means we get on a hot streak and get stuck playing “up” to teams through week 14-17, get the WC, carry it through the play-offs, and meet some team in the SB of which we then destroy.

I would say the only team we’ve lost to we really were clarly better than is Buffalo. Last season all 4 losses were to good teams.

your a beast. get the team rallied we can still do this!!
also..
tell jeff davidson to give double-trouble the ball more instead of putting so much pressure on jake when he is struggling a little bit.

Uh...
Is anyone else kind of stokes that Chris Harris came by to visit us? I’m not sure but somehow I don’t think that kind of thing happens alot. He’s been one of my favorite players and he’s cemented himself as such for the rest of his career.
I’m w/him though…I’m not giving up on my team until its mathmatically impossible for them to make the PO. 1 and 15 or 15 and 1 Go Panthers!!!1

Not playing to your potential seems typical John Fox
Every year that we are not expected to win, we play great. Every year our hopes are high, we flounder. Fox’s teams play well when they’re not supposed to, but don’t show up to the games they should win. He’s a great back against the wall coach, but lacks consistency and can’t handle being on top.

That's pretty harsh
Prior to the 2008 season most pundits had the Panthers going 8-8, 7-9 or even worse. Only the most diehard fans truly thought the Panthers could win 12 games last year.
The stars are just not lining up for us this year. The tough schedule, the injuries, the INT’s the penalties… I just want to go 9-7 and break the ‘never had back-to-back winning seasons thing’ at the very least if we can’t make the playoffs. Also, it will make that damn 49ers 1st round pick less valuable. You know they track us every week and hoot when we lose, just because of that pick.

I agree
Basically the poor effort from the ST and the weak offensive gameplans drawn up from the OC each week is what has killed the Panther’s hopes of getting to the postseason.

Good point about the pick...
BUT.. just because they have the pick doesn’t mean they will utilize it! If they get a top pick and end up grabbing a BUST with it, I’ll laugh so incredibly hard I might bust something of my own (a gut, or similar, that is).

Smith is hit-and-miss at best it seems and I forget the other guys name! If they have another one, well, there you go. haha

Let's take a look back then
2003 no expectations… Superbowl
2004 high expectations… terrible start. However once everyone jumps off the bandwagon and writes off the Panthers, Fox rallies and nearly makes the playoffs
2005 low expectations after previous year’s slump… NFC Championship
2006 huge expectations, Keyshawn the missing piece… The team flounders
2007… Team finally rallies after we are at our worst position behind a 4th string QB
2008 No expectations… 12-4
2009 Mixed expectations, after a great 08 season, return most starters, and a topsy-turvey division… Team Flounders.
Maybe this is the first time you felt the team had potential to do great things, and were let down… but I have been down this road before. Way too familiar

2004 – Blaming a losing season where we were ravaged by injuries on not living up to expectations really isn’t fair.

We;ve been hit hard by injuries this year as well.
This offseason, if we fix the tackling and playcalling, we are a Super Bowl team. No one has stopped Double Trouble yet, and if we get an OC who will hand it off to them 35 times a game, along with a semblance of a passing game, we are a legit threat to go all the way.

You did not read it thoroughly
I said Fox was a great back against the wall coach. In 2004, after injuries, is when he rallied for like 6 straight wins. Why he can’t handle is being a top team with everyone gunning for you

what is the difference between 4-6 and 4-6?
the answer is nothing. the titans are 4-6 and believe they will win out, and win the superbowl. anyone that disagrees with them has to prove it on the field. we are also 4-6. are they more talented than us? who would you rather have, chris johnson or D-Will AND J-stew? They have talent, but i don’t think they are more talented than us. they have last year’s coach and a new defensive coordinator. they have a new qb and a rookie receiver. they’re comparable to us and we have the same record. if everyone steps up their game, we can win out. or is the difference the coaching? especially on offense? either way, we can still finish 10-6. I think 9-7 can get us a wildcard spot. but there really is no need for anymore in depth analysis (although I do enjoy the great work many bloggers do on this site), it’s just time to win. that’s all it is. we win out, or we don’t. all this talk about everything else is irrelevant when D-Will runs only 13 times. I believe we can still get it done. I have doubts about if we will get it done, though.
